Purpose of the Meeting:

Focus Points:

Begin a discussion for a consistent, comprehensive grading policy for grades 3-8.

Ideas:

Discuss and interpret different components of grading:

Grades 3-6
Homework
- Excerpt from Marshall Memo (Lizzie will forward for everyone to read).
- How much is given?
- How do we use it?
- No zeros, not used more than 5% of grade
Classwork vs. Participation- need to grade according to rubrics, not just how we perceive a
student
Quizzes vs. Tests- how are they different?
Assessments need to be aligned with MLO, need to consider mastery of learning, but may
incorporate different ways to get there: DIFFERTIATION!
Do we drop grades?
*All components need to be outlined
ELA what will be included? Spelling, writing, tests, *should not be grading worksheets
Math- How do we grade what? What assessments from Modules are included?
JR. HIGH
This will be separated into the different subjects, and teachers will have at syllabus to present to
students at the beginning of the course.

Action Plan:

Members of the team will discuss their methods of grading, and come back to the team with
different ideas and questions.
Need to research best and current practices according to rubrics and criteria based assessments
This will be a draft policy that may change
