Extended Learning Time - After-School Program for School


#30 Posting
School #30 will be offering an afterschool program to all
students from Grades KDG -8. The program will run 7
sessions throughout the year and will be held three times
a week, from Tuesday to Thursday. Hiring will be based on
seniority.

1. Applications - Applications will be handed out to the


students on Parent Night (August 27th) and the first week of
school. All applications are due September 9 th to allow time
for transportation. Please advise students and parents
about selecting the top 3 choices on the application form.
2. Sign in please remember to sign in in the cafeteria. Only
use blue or black pen and there cannot be any mistakes.
We will not be able to use write-out on any legal document.
3. Kindergarten to Grade 4 Pick Up Procedures
Teachers, please arrive to the cafeteria promptly at 3:40 to
pick up your students. Pick up your folders in your mailbox
and sign in before you pick up your students

4. Attendance - K-4 teachers, please pick up your attendance


folder in your
mailbox before picking up kids and if you
are out, let Sub know where it is. Grades 5-8 teachers, send
your attendance folders to the office
5. Supervision - Students are to be supervised at all times.
We will follow the same discipline policy that we follow
during the day. No students will be expelled from the
program. The administrators will decide if any students will
be suspended from a session after the teacher has
exhausted all attempts to reach the student and the
parents.
6. Homework Policy Homework will start promptly at the
time allocated. Teachers and all staff are to assist students
if they need help during homework time. No teacher nor
staff should be doing their own work or using any electronic

devices during this time. It will be the after school teachers


responsibility to sign off on the homework agenda and to
call parents if homework is not being done. There is 50
minutes of homework time which should be sufficient for
most grades.
7. Project Based Session Please follow the lesson outline
provided by Ms. Martinez and Mrs. Friot. State clearly how
ELA and/or Math will be infused in the session.
8. Agenda Policy- It is expected that all students and
teachers in grades 3-8 will adhere to our agenda use policy.
As the afterschool teacher, you are expected to check
students planners daily for homework assignments and
sign planners if the homework is completed. If students are
not writing homework in the agenda on a daily basis, please
notify Mrs. Hunt.
9. Pre-Test/Post Test - There will not be any pre-tests nor
post tests. However, we will be analyzing data collected
from Dibels and other local/state assessments throughout
the year.

Substitutes - It is our hope that teachers or staff will
not be absent during each session. However, if you are,
please give us one weeks notice to find a sub. Please email
Sally, Lizzie and Shani. In addition, please write a substitute
plan which will include location of materials, directions for
instruction and dismissal information.

Fieldtrips There are 5 Saturday fieldtrips scheduled
throughout the year. Students and parents will be invited to

attend these fieldtrips. We will need 3-5 teachers to


chaperone also.

Dismissal for regular school day-

K 2 Mrs. Campion and Mrs. Tay will pick up students at


3:15 and bring them to the cafeteria to eat their dinner.
Grades 3 4 - Students will be dropped off at the cafeteria
on their way to the busses.
Grades 5 8 Students will go to their afterschool
classrooms when they are called to do so.

12. Dismissal for after school-Dismissal will begin


approximately at 5:30.
DO NOT dismiss until called.
Grades K-4 assigned Assistant will take walkers to the
cafeteria at 5:30, to have the parent sign the student out.
Teachers Assistants must stay in the cafeteria until students
are picked up.
Grades 5-8 walkers will go to the office to sign out
ALL BUSSERS-will walk out with the teacher and teacher
assistant (for grades 5-8) when called.
13. Supplies the quickest way to get the materials for
your session is to purchase them and submit the receipt
to Mrs. Hunt. The maximum amount for each session
should not total more than $ 50.00. If you go beyond
that amount it must be approved by Mrs. Hunt.

Cultural Awareness Research Project (sample


lesson outline)
10 days-November 4th to November 20th (grades 4-6)
Brenda Martinez and Fabiola Friot

We would like to conduct a session where students can learn about different
countries cultures. The project is intended to extend students cultural awareness
of other countries. Students will learn how to conduct research, gain vocabulary
and knowledge of foreign countries, and learn how to develop graphs. Math will be
infused through statistics relevant to the population of the country, for example
using census data to create graphs. ELA will be infused through researching,
reading and writing about the country. Furthermore students will develop the ability
to create a final product and present it to their peers.
Materials: Laptops or computers
Poster paper/science fair display board
Markers/glue
Scissors/construction paper

Library books

Day 1: introduction to course. Every student will pick a country to research based
on the demographics of our school population and others countries of interests.
Day 2: students will research the countries of their choice using books.
Day 3: student will use laptops to research country
Day 4: writing out the information in an organized and grammatically correct
manner to prepare for presentation
Day 5: math: students will make calculations based off of census data and create
graphics/ bar graphs to represent literacy rates, age ranges, yearly population
comparisons etc.
Day 6: Math: students will create bar graphs
Day 7: catch up day students will have the opportunity to make up any missing
work.
Day 8: work on developing their final project
Day 9: work on developing their final project
Day 10: final in class project presentation
