Action Planning
Research shows that students
are more successful with
more parent involvement.
My vision is to increase
parent involvement and
establish a means of
communication that will
reach every parent, including
our ESL parents and students.
As part of my vision to
increase parent involvement
and communication, I plan on
creating and maintaining a
parent newsletter, a
communication weekly
envelope, monthly parent
events, and with the help of
our IT department, a school
television station that will be
maintained by the students
and also viewed by our
parents.
In order to implement my
vision of increasing parent
involvement, my goal is to
not only have the parents
take ownership of parent
events, but also have the
teachers identify ways of
incorporating parent
volunteers in their
classrooms. This will include
a professional development
on how to utilize parent
volunteers.
My vision will require
supervision and guidance
that will continue through the
school year. This will begin
with the plan of action
outlined in the summer
before school starts, and then
followed through with parent
events, communication, and
running the meetings.
At the beginning of the school
year, at our first parent event
in August, I plan on surveying
parents and community

Action Planning
As part of the SLT (School
Leadership Team), I will be
involved in creating policies
and procedures that will
promote a positive school
culture. One of the major
components is fine tuning
our PBIS (Positive Behavior
Intervention & Supports)
program that is already in
place. An integral part of this
program is our ClassDojo
online behavior system that I
will continue to incorporate
into our school.
One of the major
components my principal has
instituted with past few
months is UBD
(Understanding By Design).
This is a tool utilized for
teaching by design and
understanding what concept
the students need to know.
Included in this specifically is
how to create a MLO
(Mastery Learning Objective),
which will give teachers the
opportunity to think deeply
about their lessons and how
they will address higher
order thinking skills. I plan on
working closely with the
principal to incorporate this
into the classrooms. This
also included being on the

Working in a predominately
Hispanic community and a
school that has over 30
languages spoken, it is
necessary to address these
diverse needs. As part of the
after school program, we will
develop project based
activities that will recognize
and celebrate different
cultures. In addition, I will
create a student handbook
that will be accessible in
different languages.
My plan as the parent
involvement chair is to bridge
the gap between our school
and community. During our
first event, I will bring in
outside resources and make
them available to the
parents. Specifically, the
Refugee center on the West
Side. This will provide help
and support to our

My plan is after my
internship ends, that the
policies and procedures that
are created in the staff
handbook are sustained
online and within the school.
In addition, the parent
involvement plan will
continue to be sustained
from year to year.
When I become a leader
within a school, I will
continually follow and
uphold the ELCC and NYSED
standards.
