STATICAL STABILITY
The degree of stable equilibrium of a body (such as a suspended body, a floating ship, or an
airplane in flight) capable of rotating out of its equilibrium position measured by the torque
necessary to produce a given deflection is determined as the statical stability.

CURVE STABILITY
In algebraic geometry, a stable curve is an algebraic curve that is asymptotically stable in the sense
of geometric invariant theory.
A semi-stable curve is one satisfying similar conditions, except that the automorphism group is allowed to
be reductive rather than finite (or equivalently its connected component may be a torus). Alternatively the
condition that non-singular rational components meet the other components in at least 3 points is
replaced by the condition that they meet in at least 2 points.

INITIAL STABILITY
The curve of the arms of lever thus traced does not correspond, in its entirety, in the normal
conditions of navigation: the strong slopes, it makes it possible for example to check if need
be the respect for lawful criteria, and to appreciate to a certain extent the ultimate safety of
the ship in extreme situations. But in theory a ship is intended to sail with relatively weak
angles of inclination: a few degrees, even ten or a score, seldom more, for the ships with
mechanical propulsion - according to the more or less disordered size and movements which
they undergo with the sea - usually to about thirty degrees or more for one sailing ship.

ANGLE OF LOLL
The Angle of Loll is the angle or range over which a vessel has negative metacentric height or (GM) while
upright. This vessel will tend to heel to port or starboard,or alternate back and forth in an unstable
manner. As the vessel heels over it will pass beyond the angle of loll and reach a state of "stable"
equilibrium. At this point the vessel may appear to be a stable but, a course of action should be taken to
remedy this situation and ensure the boat has more acceptable initial stability values.
