API 653 ABOVE GROUND STORAGE TANK INSPECTION
Corrosion is caused by environmental factors as well as the product being stored in the tanks.
Often the external visual appearance of the tank is good and it requires the use of the NDT
methods listed below in order to reveal the true condition of the metal structures.

ABOUT US
REMISTAR was established in 2012 with
one goal in mind: to ensure that all our
customers receive value-for-money
services, without compromising work and
safety standards of the highest level.
REMISTAR is NOSA/NQA ISO 9001:2008
certified and has a SANAS BBB-EE Level 1
rating, while being registered with the
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The Directors bring well over 10 years of
NDT experience to the company and are
involved in every aspect of the daily
technical activities.
We specialise in fully comprehensive Tank
Inspection to API 653 International
Standards and offer a range of Industrial
Rope Access/Work-at-height solutions.
The core technical qualifications are
held by the management, including
the Directors themselves, to ensure
continuous service delivery to customers
without disruption.
All of our services are complemented with
rope access. Our focus has been to
provide exceptional service to the local
Industrial sector, Petrochemical, On- and
Offshore Marine, Oil and Gas Industries.
Our mission is to maintain a drive
towards increased usefulness to our
customers, through continuous skills
training and the measurement of results,
thereby contributing towards a greater
turnkey scope.

OUR AIM
Our aim is to provide our customers with comprehensive inspection results and material
condition information that identify areas of concern so that maintenance can be planned and
repairs can be carried out well before a failure can occur.
Out staff are fully qualified and specifically trained to observe their surroundings and report any
potential leaks or material defects in the field.

We use our robust B-Scan crawler to conduct

in-service vertical tank shell ultrasonic thickness
measurements without the need for scaffolding or
other access systems. The crawler can take a
stream of UT measurements in a 10mm wide scan
every 1mm.

API 653 specification Vacuum boxes are used to

create a vacuum over suspected defects (like
cracks) and over repairs in order to determine if
there are any leaks, before reporting the findings.
The vacuum boxes are fitted with calibrated
pressure gauges and vacuum relief safety valves.

A high speed, motorised magnetic flux leakage

(MFL) corrosion detection scanner is used to
inspect the tank floor. The scanner is can inspect
up to 8000 square feet per shift. Based on the
latest magnetic technology it is easy to operate
accurate and reliable. This is an important tool for
any tank inspection program.
