You will notice that you have many video choices for this task. When selecting your
videos, please consider the following:
Length Some videos are significantly longer than others. You are not required to
go beyond the first 3 minutes in the longer videos. Feel free to continue if you want
to challenge yourself.
Accent The narrators vary in each video, so you may find yourself more comfortable
with one accent over another.
Speed As is the case with English speakers, some Italians speak faster than others.
Please select the sets with the speeds you feel you can handle.
Interest Believe it or not, the level of interest in a subject affects ones ease of
comprehension. If you have a passion for a particular city/region, give it a try!
On the appunti di comprensione, you will notice the questions are not specific; therefore,
simply jot down what you understand in Italian.

Grading: 5 points each based on the rubric in this document (10 points total)
Consider the questions you were asked in the comprehension portion to help you write
a well-written response.
Do not forget to use your tenses appropriately (presente, passato prossimo, imperfetto,
e futuro), as well as pronouns, agreement, etc.
Do not use Google Translate or anything similar. Doing so is plagiarism and you will
fail the assignment. If you need to look up a word, please use an Italian dictionary or
Word Reference.
Do not write a transcript of the video. Doing so is plagiarism and you will fail the
assignment. You are not to quote the narrator; these are your thoughts about the cities.

Recording yourself in Italian, giving your thoughts and opinions regarding the
information you heard in the videos. Later, listen to yourself and reflect on what you did
well and what you feel needs more practice.
For pronunciation purposes, read your paragraphs out loud. After several times, try to
say them without reading them from the page.
Listen to people speaking in Italian (friends, relatives, television, radio, etc.) whenever
possible to train your ear, which will facilitate pronunciation later. You may want to tune
in to RadioItalia at http://www.radioitalia.it/player.php. There is also a RadioItaly mobile
device app that operates out of New York.
