flashcards using a flashcards app, students will match the vocabulary task cards with the
correct definition, with 90% accuracy.

Group Discussion: The students will participate in a group discussion about the new
vocabulary words.
Independent Study: Students will independently use technology to make his or her own
flash cards.
ADAPTATIONS (Exceptionality*)
Students with a learning disability or struggling readers will receive a vocabulary helpful
hint sheet as a guide.
DIFFERENTIATION OF INSRUCTION
Tier 1: Students will match the vocabulary task cards with the correct definition, using a
helpful hints sheet as a reference.
Tier 2: Students will match the vocabulary task cards with the correct definition.
Tier 3: Students will match the vocabulary task cards with the correct definition, and put
two of the words into a sentence.

DEVELOPMENTAL PROCEDURES
Students will participate in a discussion about the vocabulary associated in the life
cycle of a butterfly. (Does anyone know any stages in the life cycle of a butterfly?
What is the first stage called? What is a pupa? What is a larva?)
Students will work collaboratively with the teacher to create definitions for the
vocabulary terms.
Students will work on an iPad, using a Flashcards App and create his or her own
flashcards with the vocabulary.
Students will study the vocabulary independently, and then with a friend.
Students will receive vocabulary/definition task cards and correctly match them,
as the teacher walks around and observes.

Students will participate in a Kahoot! using the vocabulary terms and definitions.

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE
After learning the vocabulary for the life cycle of a butterfly, students will complete a
vocabulary worksheet for homework.

FOLLOW-UP: DIRECT TEACHER INTERVENTION AND ACADEMIC


ENRICHMENT
Direct Teacher Intervention: For students who had trouble with the lesson, we will work
together to come up with trick/ helpful hints to help remember the vocabulary.
Academic Enrichment: For students who did not have trouble with this assignment, he or
she will use a website to create his or her own crossword puzzle, and then switch and
solve a friends crossword that he or she made (using the life cycle of a butterfly words
and definitions).
