Center for Appreciation of Motorsport

NOIDA, UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA

Introduction
India and automobiles have had a long lasting loving relationship.
Indians have loved cars, whether its their small Tata Nanos to an expensive
Mercedes Benz. Good looking cars have always caught the Indian eye. A good
looking Ferrari on the streets has always made heads turn.

Lets look at a few examples.

Cost of cars in picture : Over

40 Crores
Picture taken in Temple Bay,
Mahabalipuram, Chennai

Price of cars in total: Over 50 Crores

Picture taken : Worli Sea Face, Mumbai

The idea behind the center for motorsport is that it will educate and make the Indian common man more
aware about the advancements taken in automobile advancement. It will help the common man get to
know motorsport better as it is a rising sport in the country.

Lack of facilities & Proposal

In spite of the interest in supercars in the country, there is a lack of facilities where the common
man can learn about these cars.

A facility where families can spend their day off even if they want to have fun and just admire
the wonderful creations in the field.

The proposal will consist of multiple viewing galleries which will consist of cars of our generation
and concept cars of the next.

It will also consist of an auditorium where movies and presentations will take place.

A multifunction hall where press conferences and product launches can take place.

It will also consist of a restaurant which will provide food and refreshments to visitors.

My proposal will exhibit 8 racing companies, with the number of cars with each company
varying between 7-10 vehicles. The proposal will be designed to hold 80 vehicles.

The area of the display galleries will be between 5000-6000 sq m, excluding the restaurant,
multifunction hall, auditorium & admin.

Requirements

The project shall consist of:

Lobby: To act as an anti-space where visitors would buy tickets, souvenirs and refreshments from the
vending machines.

Multiple galleries: Each gallery would showcase a different categories of vehicles, either different in
manufacturer or in typologies. The total gallery space would consist of 80 cars with a total area of
5000-6000 sq m.

Auditorium: To view racing documentaries as well as classic movies where cars were the main focus.

Cafeteria: A car themed cafeteria which would serve meals and snacks throughout the day.

Multipurpose Halls: These are spaces where future Auto Expos could take place. Companies and
racing teams would also use this space to promote their brands and products. With proximity to the
Buddh International Circuit, pre-race and post-race press conferences could be conducted.

Parking: It is essential to provide ample parking as many guests would drive from the city using the
expressway.

Workshop/Garage: This would be to repair damages to the exhibits.

Mercedes-Benz Museum,
Stuttgart

Mercedes-Benz Museum, Stuttgart

The building consists of 16,500 sq m of exhibition spaces with
a ground floor footprint of 4,800 sq m.
It houses 160 vehicles.
It is based on a unique cloverleaf concept using three
overlapping circles with the center removed to form a
triangular atrium recalling the shape of a Wankel engine.

Porsche Museum, Stuttgart

The museum covers 5,600 sq m of exhibition space
with 80 exhibits.
In their design, the architects at Delugan Meissl set
out to create a place of sensuous experience that
reflects the authenticity of Porsche products and
services as well as the companys character

Interior Design Scope

There is a very high ID scope for the project. The user must need to feel that he or
she has entered a space which is modern and futuristic.

The auditorium will need to be designed keeping in mind the acoustics and modern
theme of the museum.

The multifunction hall needs to be stylish so that it attracts companies and brands to
conduct product launches and various other conferences.

The galleries need to be designed with a style that keeps with the cars and the
technology thats to be showcased. It is also important to note that since each car
manufacturer goes by different design philosophies, each gallery featuring a
particular car manufacturer must incorporate those design philosophies in the
space to complement the cars.

BMW Showroom, Paris

For Example

Audi Showroom, Milan

Mercedes Showroom, Kazakhistan

The showroom interior is divided into classes of vehicles.
From the ceiling hang down a large canvas of dense white
and black fabric, which shows the classes of vehicle.

Mercedes Showroom, Kazakhistan

The showroom was designed with the

philosophy of Mercedes Benz, thus accenting
the cars more than the architecture, itself.
As shown above, a red SLS brings the entire
space alive.

Beach Resort
(An Ode to the Beach)
NARAVAKKOM, TAMIL NADU, INDIA

Introduction
Chennai is the only metropolitan
city in the country to be able to
boast of an impressive beach
coastal line.
Even Mumbai, doesnt have
beaches as big as Marina in spite
of having a coastal area much
larger than Chennais.
The beach, then, is something very
special to Chennai as it provides a
relaxing and warm relaxing feeling
even though it is in the bustling
environment of the city.

The problem with the many beach

resorts in and around the city of
Chennai is that over the years they
have commercialized into
corporations.

Temple Bay owned by Radisson BLU

has pool which is 27000 sq feet long
and chalets on either side, none of
which have the view of the sea or
the beach, which really makes no
sense when a world class beach is in
the premises of the resort.

My proposal will be a more personal

statement to the beach, and will
make use of the beach in everyway
possible providing restaurants, and
other types of spaces on the beach
which can be enjoyed by all.

Four Seasons, Bora Bora Islands

Four Seasons, Bora Bora Islands

In terms of Interior Design, the challenge will

be to design a space that will merge with the
surroundings of the beach and the sea as well
as give guests a feeling of personal space .
The idea is to give make the users feel a part
of the beach and make the beach the
primary focus.

The Mulia Resort, Bali, Indonesia

Another challenge while interior design would

be the choice of materials to be used, and to
be able to differentiate between the suites
and the cottages in terms of well being and
panache.

Site Data

is located in Tindivanam town.

a 2 hour drive.

Education Center
NAVI MUMBAI, MAHARASHTRA , INDIA

Introduction

India has ranked 71 out of the

73 countries on the PISA
(Program for International
Student Assessment).

Education has always been a

problem in our country,
whether it was the lack of
facilities or the method of
teaching.

If India wants to develop into a

superpower, it needs to start
from the ground up.

The participation of students drops from 98% to

55% from primary to secondary school.
The problem with the Indian education system
is that it doesnt consider a lot of life skills as an
essential part of the system.
Students must go through physical health
classes as well as a vocational skill system must
be put in place.

My proposal will a center where students

would want to come and learn.
It would integrate education with sports and
other extra curricular activities.
A school is where a child spends their first 16-17
years and must be designed with great
sensitivity.
The challenge will be to design keeping
anthropometry as the most important factor,
as children will be aged from 4-17 years and
will be growing at different stages.
