3. application
Your Analysis

Do you think the teacher’s learning objective was appropriately assessed by your test
items? Why? Why not?

I do think the teacher’s learning objective was appropriately assessed by our test items
because the items because the items were based on the objectives of the lessons being discussed.

Why did you have to study the teacher’s learning objectives prior to developing an
assessment tool? Enumerate/list your reason(s)

1. To determine what assessment tool is appropriate to use.

2. To determine what is to be assessed and its reason and purpose for assessment.
3. To determine the items to be included in the exams.

Your Target
At the end of this activity, you should be able to give some principles involved in
designing the curriculum.

Your Map
For this process, go through the following steps:

1. Visit a school and choose a class to be observed. Then arrange with the teacher that
you are going to conduct a class observation.

2. Take note of the different learning environment provided in the lesson plan for specific
subject area. Generate information on the following: objectives, strategies, and
assessment tools used.

3. Find out whether or not strategies are aligned with the objectives and assessment of
learning. Make a matrix of information from the observations made.

Your Analysis

1. Why should teachers know about curriculum design?

The teacher should know about the curriculum design so that she will have an idea how to
make a syllabus of a certain subject that would help her in preparing and organizing her lessons.
Another thing is it will help her identify that learning and activities should be included for the
subject that would supplement the needs of the students and that would help them develop their
skills and would provide experiences that are essential for them.

2. Why do teachers need to align the objectives, strategies and assessment?

The teacher needs to align the objectives, strategies and assessment so that she will be able
to determine what strategy is appropriate for the objectives and the tool or assessment that should
be used in analyzing student’s quality of learning. The strategy is determined both by what is to be
assessed the reasons or purposes (objective) for the assessment. Another reason is that objective
affects the assessment strategy and the tools used may sometimes be unsuitable for its purpose.

Your Reflections

What has been your most meaningful experience in this episode? What makes it
meaningful to you? How could such an experience help you become a better teacher?

Our classroom observation during our community Immersion is one of purposeful activity
for us students and as a future teacher. We are lucky to have this activity because it will help us to
be prepared for our profession someday. We were able to see what the real classroom situation
outside our school is. Through this we are given idea how to deal such situations that would
probably occur when we’re already in the field. Our resource teacher gave us tips on how to deal
with different situations or problems when they happen.

II. CURRICULUM AS TOTAL EXPERIENCES

Have you not wondered why your field work was arranged during December and when we are
about to end classes for our holidays? Your convener deliberated on it and we have identified
some reasons – the obvious was that we do not want your other classes disturbed.

Likewise, the school you are about to do field activity will have different activities conducted
which will make you wonder whether they are essential or just incidental in their school.

In this activity, let us look at the experiences provided by the school when we conduct our
fieldwork.
Your Target
At the end of this activity, you should be able to identify the different learning
experiences provided by school as part of the curriculum.

Your Map

For this process, go through the following steps:

1. Right upon arrival, observe what are the learning experiences that the school provides
for the learners.

2. Take note of these different learning experiences and make an analysis for them.

3. Find out whether or not these learning experiences are necessary or just cropped up as
an incident and its worthiness to be included in the total learning experience is
somewhat debatable. Give your reflection on it.

A. Fill up the following table. At least two activities have been provided for you.

Activities by the Why the activity? Reflection on the conduct

learners (Reason for doing it) of such
1. Christmas party A celebration for sharing and gift I enjoyed facilitating the
giving. It is already a tradition for Christmas party during our
schools to celebrate Christmas party immersion. I

2. Christmas program To give the party a little fun and I feel very happy to join the
entertainment. Usually during Christmas program. I was

3. Sports competition Usually during Christmas party Games are also important in
there are games held for run of a party. They make the party

4. Kasag Festival

5.

Reflections

1. Based on your list, what do you think is the common reason why such activities or learning
experiences is spearheaded by the school?

Curriculum should also provide not only learning for the students but also activities that
would give them experiences that will develop their personality. Christmas party and games are
some of the activities that would enhance their social and personal skills a well as their abilities and
capacities. Both would give them enjoyment and fun and it will also serve as their recreational
activity where they will have rest from their studies and other school works.
2. Is there specific objective for the holding of such activity/experience? If there is, what is the
objective? If there is none, what do you think is the reason? (Choose only one specific activity
that will answer this question from the list you made.)

I don’t think there is an objective in holding a Christmas party. This activity is only for
socializing, fun and gift giving. For me this activity is hold in school because this is already a
tradition. Schools celebrate Christmas party is usually celebrated during the last day of school
before the long vacation starts.

3. What insights have you gained from this exercise in relation to curriculum development and
the role of different stakeholders in the provision of the different learning experiences? List at
least three.

1. The teacher has a great role in making and implementing the curriculum through the lesson plan
she is making daily. She should also provide activities for the students that would develop their
skills as well as give them experiences where the student can learn.

2. School principals and Administrators are important because they are supervising the teachers
and other staffs at school. They also plan for the improvement of school facilities and materials
needed for effective learning. It is a great burden to be a principal. He is the one supervising
everything in the school as well as the one who is finding ways on solving school problems.

3. Students are the important factor in curriculum. They are the very reason why there are schools
and institutions. As a part of curriculum they should also do their part in helping implementing
curriculum in a way that they would work hand in hand with other curriculum makers and
implementers in order for the curriculum to be successful. For instance SSG or Student Supreme
Government makes rules in improving the school. They also attend to the needs and problem of
their fellow students.

C. THE TEACHING PROFESSION

I. The Teacher as a Person and as a Professional

Objectives:

1. Describe the characteristics of a teacher as a person.

2. Identify the competencies that make up a professional teacher.
3. Clarify one’s personal values, attitude and beliefs about teaching.

A. Observe the Teacher:

1. Describe the appearance of the teacher. The teacher is _______________

She is very prim and pretty and has a fair complexion. Her hair is long and neatly
comb. She has a very good poise even though she is stout. I have observed that she is always
wearing stockings and closed shoes.

2. List down the personal traits of the teacher which facilitated learning on the part of the
students. Describe briefly.

a. She is strict that made her student behave well and they focus with the discussion.
b. She is always prepared for her lessons
c. She explains the lessons clearly especially to the low level of students.
d. She encourages her students to participate with the discussion.
e. She gives time for questions and clarifications.

3. Describe how the teacher showed the following professional characteristics:

a. Mastery of the subject matter –

She masters her lessons very well. She made sure that the topic she is
discussing is correct. I can say that she is very knowledgeable with the subject
area she is handling.

b. Understanding of the learner –

She varies her strategy of teaching to the level of the students capacity
and understanding of the lessons being discussed.

c. Understating and appreciation of the teaching profession –

I can see that she is very dedicated towards her profession even though
according to her she didn’t like to be a teacher before. But when she was already
in the field she was able to accept and embraced it and made it a part of her life.

B. Interview the teacher on the following: (Some classes hold Teacher Forum wherein
they invited the teachers as panelists. Their answers can be used as the basis for these
questions)

a. Fundamental reason(s) why he/she goes into teaching

According to her Education is not her first choice. She really wanted to be a dentist.
But due to financial reasons she opted to take Education instead.

b. What made him/her stay in the profession?

She learn to love teaching and she realized that it is a indeed a noble profession
when she was in the field already.

Your Reflections

1. What kind of teacher you want to be? Draw or illustrate your answer.
2. What insights/realization did you have about the “demands” of being a professional teacher?
How will you meet these challenging ‘demands” in the future?

Our country needs teachers who are very dedicated and able in imparting learning.
Teachers have a very great role I the lives of every individual. As a professional teacher your role
does not end in teaching only but by influencing every student to be a good contributor and active
citizen of the community. This is very challenging profession because it requires patient and
understanding.

It is a fact that the quality of learning now a days is decreasing. This is because of other
factors affecting and distracting the learners. They cannot anymore concentrate with their studies.
For instance, they cut classes because the play computer games. Therefore it is challenge to me as a
future teacher to motivate and make them focus with their studies by applying the strategies we
have learned.

3. What are your values and strengths that can help you become a true professional?

As a teacher you have to be patient and understanding. I do believe that I have these
qualities. These are important for me to have good relationship with the students. Another factor
that would help be become professional teacher is being open minded about my students and the
situation arising in the environment. I am not also in favored of favoritism because I do believe that
every individual has equal right and opportunity. I do hope that these qualities of mine will help me
to become a professional teacher.

Observation Guide for Classroom Management

1. Observe the class at least twice. Focus on how the teacher manages the classroom by using
supportive measures in the following areas:

a. Organizational structure. Is the classroom structure fixed or flexible? Is instruction

carried individually, by group? Or both?
b. Schedule. How are activities scheduled? Is time allotted properly for each activity?
c. Record Keeping. How is attendance monitored? Does the teacher have a record book?
Do the students have individual portfolio to file actual records of scored test,
assignments, art work, etc.
d. Physical Environment. How is cleanliness maintained? Is there proper ventilation?
Lighting? Is the noise level appropriate?
e. Discipline. How is discipline established? Is the approach to discipline preventive?
Describe.
f. Routines. How are routines established? What procedures are in place? Describe the
procedures.
OBSERVATION REPORT

Name of the School Observed: Banate National High School

School Address: Brgy. Bularan, Banate, Iloilo,
Date of Visit: December 17-19, 2009

The class that we have observed has a very good classroom management. The seats were
arranged in a way that the teacher could easily see her students. As she is discussing the lessons they
attentively listen and join with the discussion by sharing their knowledge to the class when the
teacher asks questions or examples of the topics being discussed. They work hand in hand to make the
lesson successful and full of learning.
The teacher manages the class very well. She is strict regarding the time of the class and
the time allotted for activities. She also makes sure that the activity could be finished by the student on
time. Attendance is checked through seat plan and sometimes trough test papers or activities of the
students. I have also observed that the activities and works of the student were compiled in a cabinet
while others were placed in the bulletin. This simply shows that the teacher is keeping the records of
the students.
She has no advisory class but she till manages to maintain the cleanliness and order of the
room. She asks a group of student to clean the room every after class. The room is well lighted but a
little bit cozy because it is not that big enough. It is not noisy although the room is situated near the
gym. This is maybe because the students were oriented not to stay there if classes are going on which
shows discipline is well established. They also establish good classroom routine. For instance, no
students could enter the classroom if it’s not yet time. They should line themselves outside before
entering the room to prevent noise.
I admire our resource teacher for she managed to have good discipline and organization in
her class. She is very strict with the rules in the classroom that’s why she maintained it properly. I also
wanted to have this kind of classroom management style someday. I really have learned many things
from her. From the strategies and techniques to classroom policies. I am very glad to attend
Community Immersion Activities. This would help us a lot in the future.
Your Analysis

1. How did the classroom organization and routine affect the learner’s behavior?
Environment is one of the factors that affect learning. If the classroom is well
organized it is conducive for learning for the students. It is important that the classroom
should be arranged properly. For instance, if all the seats are aligned and can be seen in
front by the teacher she can easily see if they are paying attention during discussion or not.

2. What behavior strategies were effective in managing the behavior of the learners,
in motivating students? Why were they effective?
Good discipline and routine were vey effective I managing the behavior of the
learners I motivating the students. If the teacher implements the rules properly the
students will probably abide and become used to it. It is effective because it help the teacher
manage the classroom properly.

Your Reflections

1. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year

level do you see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this
level? Why?
I prefer to teach 2nd year or 3rd year level because they are a bit matured than 1 st
year while I think it is hard to manage 4 th year because they are graduating. I want to have
routines just like what I have observed with our resource teacher during our Immersion. I
also wanted to have a good discipline strategy.

2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you
choose these rules?
1. Students are not allowed to eat or bring foods and drinks inside the classroom
to maintain the cleanliness
2. They should not enter the room if it is not yet time to avoid noise.
3. They should not stay outside the room if there’s still a class going on to avoid
distraction and noise as well.
4. Students should arrange and clean the room after the class for the next set of
class to have nice and good classroom environment.

3. Should learners be involved in making class rules? Why?

Students should be involved in making rules so that they themselves could suggest
what rules should be included. This is also important so that it would also be easy for them
to remember what the rules are.

Your Analysis
(Answers to these questions should be based in your actual observation as you engaged
yourself in the community as well as your interaction with the principal and the barangay
officials. For example, if you are in Puyas, Cabatuan (barangay) and Puyas National High
School (name of school).)

1. Give your suggestions on how the Banate National High School can creatively use the
resources of the barangay.
The town od Banate is composed of five barangay if I’m not mistaken. Therefore the
Banate National high school could not only use the resources of barangay Bularan where
the school is situated but also the town proper where the gymnasium and the library are
located. They could use these facilities every time they need it. For instance if the school
held program and the school gym can’t accommodate all the students, they can use the town
gymnasium.

2. How can the Banate National High School help in addressing the issues/concerns and
problems of barangay?
I have observed that the barangay has a problem regarding pollution and garbage
disposal. The school could help minimizing these problems through community service
program where the school will help cleaning the community. They can also minimize these
problems through making projects such as garbage can. Another is through forum where
the school would invite the people to make them aware that such problem is present.

3. What possible linkages do you think the barangay and school should have?

The possible linkages of the barangay are community, brgy. and town, officials, different
organizations, NGOs that could help and support the barangay to develop and improve it.

Your Reflections

1. As a future teacher, what do you think will be your role in the community?

Teachers shape the community. As a future teacher I have a great role in the
community. My role will not stop the school only. I also should be concern with helping and
improving my community. As what I have observed teachers also help the brgy. in
maintaining its order and cleanliness.
2. How will you encourage more community participation among teachers and students?

Through community projects teachers and students could help the community. For
instance, they can have fund raising to just like Mr. and Ms. to raise fund to donate project in
the barangay. They could also have community service projects where in they will have
clean and green program to maintain the cleanliness of the barangay.

3. How will you prepare yourself to become a global teacher?

We are taught how to use technology to improve the learning of the students and to
make the works of the teachers easy. Technology will help me to reach the goal of becoming
a global teacher. It will give me easy access in gathering information that would help in
global learning of the students.. I do hope that through the use of technology we could
produce globally competitive students.
