V. Objective(s):
By the end of the 45-minute lesson, the students will demonstrate their ability to
work with partners to complete the math stations.
o I can complete my center work.
Depending on the center, by the end of the 45-minute lesson, the students will
demonstrate their ability to add and subtract numbers or compare numbers as
greater than, less than, or equal to.
VI. Introduction:
Strategy and Grouping Pattern Used/Group Size:
For this lesson, the students will be grouped as a whole group (18) and in centers (4-5).

Math 6.2

Transition/Focus Attention:
The students will be transitioning from story time to Math. The teacher will have to
students take out their Math in 180 days papers.
Motivation/Hook:
The student who is in charge of the math board will have to complete the components.
Set Behavior Expectations:
Okay boys and girls, today we are working in centers. I expect you to work your
hardest. If there are any problems with your partners while working in the centers, we
will work at our desks this week instead of with friends. I expect you to use an inside
voice and complete all of your work at each station.
Set Purpose:
Today we are practicing our math facts.
VII. Steps/Learning Activities/Anticipated Time:
(5 minutes) The students will be transitioning from story time to Math. The
teacher will have the student who is in charge of the math board to come to the
SmartBoard and work through the Math in 180 days paper.
(40 minutes) After completing the morning review, the students will be
transitioning through four different centers. The students will be given
approximately 20 minutes in each center (time will depend on how long it takes
students to get through the centers). These centers include:
o Dice Addition and Subtraction
In this center, the students will be rolling the dice to create addition
and subtraction problems. The students will be working with this
partners, taking turns to roll the two dice. After completing this,
the students are to create two word problems based on the
problems they created while rolling the dice that relate to camping.
One of the problems should be addition and one will be
subtraction. After writing these problems, if there is still time, the
students will work on a camping word search.
o Game Board
In this center, the students will be practicing their math facts
through a board game. There are two sets of this board game at the
center allowing two groups of students to complete it at the same
time. The students are to take a tent card and answer the math fact
problem within 5 seconds. If they answer the problem correctly,
they are to take a card from the other pile to determine how many
spaces they move. If the students complete this game before the
time is up, they are to start the game over and continue practicing
they addition and subtraction.
o Fishing for Greater Than and Less Than

Math 6.2
In this center, the students will be fishing for greater than and less
than fish. The students will use a fishing pole to catch the
numbered fish from the ground. Once they catch two fish, the
students are to figure out whether a greater than, less than or equal
to sign is appropriate between the two fish. There will be two
fishing poles at this station allowing for two students to work on
their problems at the same time. The students are to create 16
different problems. If the students complete this before time is up,
there will be a word scramble at the station.
o Smore Dominoes
Finally, at this last station, the students will spread out the domino
cards face down. The students will then pick up the card and write
the number in order from left to right. Then, after writing the
numbers, the students are to add the two numbers together. In this
station, everyone should have different numbers seeing as
everyone should pick a card themselves to answer. If the students
complete the work at this station before time is up, there will be a
crossword puzzle to complete.

Differentiated Instruction:
For this lesson, the students will be differentiated based on the questions they are
asked. The students who are below level will be asked simpler questions whereas
the students who are above level will be asked more complex questions that may
require more critical thinking.
Differentiation can also be built into the grouping in the centers. In this lesson, all
of the students will be completing the centers as is. In the centers the levels could
be differentiated based on the numbers used or the problems.
Different Types of Learners:
Visual Learners
o See the materials at each center
Auditory Learners
o Listen to their partners
o Listen to instructions
Tactile Learners
o Manipulate the game pieces
o Manipulate the fishing pole
Closure:
Today we started our first day at the centers. We worked on addition, subtraction, and
greater than/less than.
Assessment Activities:
In the center, the students will be assessed on different parts. In the fishing
center, the students will be assessed on their greater than/less than recording

Math 6.2
sheet. In the domino center, the students will be assessed on their recording sheet
for addition. Finally, in the
Transition:
After the lesson, the teacher will have the students put away their math supplies and take
out their Reading workbooks.
