Addition/Subtraction Bingo.
2nd grade, Mathematics
Practice for about 1 hour.

Introduction/OverviewThe students will be able to solve and practice their addition problems by playing bingo. They will solve the
problems themselves and a volunteer student will answer the problem to see if the students answered correct.
Who ever gets Bingo, receives a treat. Math Bingo is an easy and fun way for students to practice their math
and have fun as well.

Learning outcomes are what students are expected to learn after completing the lesson plan.
Curriculum alignmentThe goals for this activity are for students to practice their addition problems. By solving math problems while
playing will captivate their attention while doing actual work.
Standards: Numbers and Operations: II. A.1, B; III. A.1; III.B.2; III.C.2
Use addition and subtraction to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting
together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and
equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
This lesson plan is appropriate for every grade level. Just change the problems accordingly to each grade level.
Materials neededThe students will need:
-Bingo cards (one for each student)
-Bingo chips (enough to cover their cards)
-A piece of paper and pencil
Teacher:
-Handout the bingo cards to each student.
-Give bingo chips to each student.
-Use math problems from their homework and classwork, or make up math problems.
-Have candy ready for winners.
Technology resourcesAfter playing addition and subtraction bingo, students will be able to solve more problems by using the
iClickers provided by the teacher. This iClickers are to be used after the game for them to practice their math
problems. The teacher will have the scores after they each answer the problems. The iClickers just need to be on
for them to work. Remind the students to not push any other button other then A, B, C or D.
After using the iClickers, the students will next go to the iPads provided by the teacher and they will pair up
with a student and test each other. This will help them prepare for their homework. The IPads should be taken
well care of and they do not have any passwords. Teacher: make sure the students are working and taking this
time seriously.

Websites and APPSStudents will have the opportunity to go to Math Playgroundhttp://www.mathplayground.com/grade_2_games.html and keep practicing their math problems. Math
Playground makes it fun for students to work and learn while playing. Students will each have a turn to choose
a game they will like to play. We will use the computers and iPads, and it is not a required activity. If we have
enough time and the students listen while the lesson is going on, then they will have the privilege to play the
games on mathplayground.com.
Pre-activitiesStudents will be in groups of 4-5 students and will work together on a math worksheet. Each worksheet will
have math problems for the students to solve as a group. This will help the students refresh their memory and
remember what they have been learning.
Depending how well they work in groups and the time it takes students to finish the worksheet, I will put them
in groups and play a game. I will put math problems on the smart-board and which ever team knows the answer
will win candy.
ActivitiesEach student will receive a bingo card, which will be located in my desk. Make sure to instruct them to take
care of the bingo cards and listen to the instructions. I will hand out the bingo chips and ask for the students to
keep them with them until we clean up. (No bingo chips should be thrown on the ground). They will each take
out a piece of paper and a pencil to solve their math problems. (They should have paper and a pencil in their
desks). The instructions are: each square in the bingo card has a number that is the answer to a math problem.
The teacher will announce the math problems and the students will solve them in their piece of paper and mark
the bingo square with the answer they think is correct. Whenever a student gets bingo, we will pause and check
the answer to see if they answered correctly. If they did, then they will receive a candy, provided by the teacher.
(Candy jar located on top of my cabinet). The instructions and passing out cards should take less than 10
minutes. Play this activity for at least 1 hour.
