1)Flanagan, Kelly M. "The Reason Every Kid Should Talk Back to Their Parents." The
Huffington Post. TheHuffingtonPost.com, 06 Nov. 2013. Web. 16 Nov. 2016.

"

-Dr. Kelly M. Flanagan is clinical psychologist at Penn State and is a writer for the
Huffington Post. His works have also been published in Readers Digest and has even
appeared on the TODAY show (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/author/
drkellyflanagan-275). This particular article by him goes over a situation where his young
child said no to sharing his toys. Flanagan went over his internal feeling about how being a
parent and hearing no from your kids drives you crazy but he also stated that saying no
is a very important part in the developmental process. Being able to say no allows you to
express what you feel is wrong and enables you to express your personal thoughts on
particular situations and supports freedom of decision. I found this source while googling
parenting topic and how strict parenting isnt all that great. This was one of the first few articles
that I found conceding his topic. I felt that this was credible because it was written by an active
clinical psychologist who has been praised by thousands and has an outstanding amount of
published work. He really knows what he is talking about. Along with being a psychologist he is
also a father of three so parenting isnt just a topic that he writes about, he experiences it every
day. "The Reason Every Kid Should Talk Back to Their Parents is an article i decided to use in
the making of my essay because it reflects upon the topic of strict vs authoritarian parenting and
how not allowing your kid to express their feelings without getting punished is beneficial for
their future well being.

2) MilaHairPlus. "White Parents vs Black Parents." YouTube. YouTube, 30 Aug. 2013. Web. 15
Nov. 2016.
- This source is a youtube video that depicts three parenting scenarios and how white
parents would react versus how black parents would react. The three scenarios are asking

to get pizza, locking the bathroom door and not doing the dished and in all three the white
child is allowed to basically demand things and do what they want while the black child
gets reminded who his maker really is. This was the first video source that popped up while
googling white parents vs non white parents. This is credible source because it is a perfect
example of my essay topic by showing the household relations between a child and their parent
being different on the families race. It also has 7.6 million views which makes it popular. This
video is a prime example of my topic because it depicts the social media phenomenon that is that
white kids are less mannered than non-white kids. I am explaining why social media
perceives this to accurate and having an example is perfect for this scenario.

3)Mgbemere Bianca, and Rachel Telles. "Types of Parenting Styles and How to Identify Yours."
Developmental Psychology at Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt University, 10 Dec. 2013. Web. 20
Nov. 2016.

-This source is an informative article that discusses the 4 different types of

parenting styles accepted by modern psychology. The four major parenting types:
authoritarian, neglectful, permissive, and authoritative. I discovered this source when
searching google for articles on parenting types that gave good day to day examples.
This was the only one that went over the topic in a manner easy to understand as well as
gave plenty of good daily examples that concern the day to day life situations in which
the examples are applicable. This source is credible because it is written on a topic that
is very much discussed and known about in the psychology community. It is also written
by two graduate students majoring in developmental psychology. This ties into my topic
because it goes over the different parenting types expressed by white and non white
parents. It also explains how each is effective and ineffective and the possible outcomes
of forceful following just one type.

4)Odubote, Bamidele Andrew. "Parenting Style, Race and Delinquency: A Comparative Study of
European American, African American and Nigerian Families." Order No. 3299418
University of Minnesota, 2008. Ann Arbor: ProQuest. Web. 20 Nov. 2016.

-This is desertion written by Andrew Bamidele and it goes over how different races in
america are more inclined to stuck to particular parenting methods. His article compares
Asian American to African American parenting styles mostly. I found this source through the
Oviatt Library website while searching race and parenting differences. This is a reputable

Butseev 3
source because it was a desertion written by a scholar that successfully led them to their
doctorate degree after this was reviewed. This source is useful to me because it goes over topics
such as how races are inclined to stick to particular methods of parenting and why this is
according to Odubotes studies as well other psychoanalysts and statistical analysiss. It provides
very good insight as well as numbers to support those claims.
