This lesson can be extended to a part three and so forth to include other major states and their part in the
American Civil War

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:

Introduction (10 minutes):
Now that we are familiar with the Civil War lets talk about a key state in the war. Did you know that
Tennessee is one of the top participating stats to be a part of the American Civil War? Its acted like a blanket
that covered the South. Today we will be looking four of the Civil War battles that were fought right here in
TN. The battles are Fort Henry, Fort Donelson, The Battle at Shiloh, and the Battle at Chattanooga. Lets go
ahead and get into groups of 2-4 to move to the computers so we can get started on a web quest that will
teach us a little about each of the four battles. Go ahead and grab our notebooks because you will be
recording answers to questions found in the web quest. Alright lets move.
Procedures (1 hr 15 minutes):
1. Once they arrive at their computers and are ready to listen (2-5 minutes): Today you will be in
groups and your group will complete a web quest to learn about each of the battles. While you are
working through the web quest I want you to record answers to the questions found in the web quest
in your notebook. You will use the answers in your notebook to complete a Prezi after you have
completed your web quest. Are there any questions? Lets go ahead and get to our computers.
(I will already have the computers on the web quest page all the kids will need to do is activate the computer)
2. Students working on their web quest (30-45 minutes): Alright turn on your computer, if you sit at
a table with a green sticker you will be the one operating the computer for todays group activity. Be
sure that you allow time for each person in your group to record their answers in their notebook
before you move to the next step. Are there any questions? If you need help lease raise your hand
and I will come help you.

(I will be walking around the room observing my students while they work and assisting them as needed)
3. Web quest is complete and students move to individual computers too complete individual
prezi presentations (30 minutes): Once you have completed your web quest and the answers in
your notebook are complete you each will move to a computer of your own and create a prezi in the
following format. If you need help please raise your hand and I will come help you.
4. When students complete prezi: When you are done raise your hand and I
will save and email you prezi to myself so that I can grade them. Turn your
notebook into the designated bin at your desk and grab a book or an early finisher out
of the brownie points bin. I do not care what subject you do your brownie points assignment on, just
work quietly so you do not disturb your classmates.
(I will be assisting students as needed while they work individually on their prezi presentations)
(Show format on the front board of the classroom https://prezi.com/edlwyjlgmoau/tennessees-part-in-the-civilwar-format/ )
Closure (10 minuters):
Alright, was that fun? Lets move to the center carpet and talk about what we learned and share some
interesting facts we found during our lesson.
(The class will hold a group discussion to close the lesson. I will guide the discussion if there is not a flow of
conversation)
ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:

I will be walking around observing students during their group activates and while they are individually
working. The summative assessment will be their notebooks and prezi presentations.
