students to count from
1 to 10 as a warm up to
their lesson, more like a
pre-listening.

She gave each student a

white board to write the
numbers, and counted the
numbers with the students
to engage them by
counting.

After the Observation:

What preparation (i.e. pre-listening activity) did the teacher give the
learners before they listened to the text? She let the students to
stand up and count from 1 to 10 in a whole class strategy and then
she told them about the activity.

If they had some preparation, select (a) if they did not, select (b).

a. How did the pre-listening activity aid student understanding?

It aided the students by making them count from 1 to 10 and make them
bringing back
their counting memory because some of the students dont know
how to count fluency.

b. What pre-listening activity might have been done to help them

understand the target language better?

Were the learners engaged in a while-listening activity/activities?

If they were, select (a); if not, select (b).

a. What were the aims of the while-listening activity/activities?
The aim was that the students have to improve their writing skills and
counting, by realizing each number from 1 to 10, in counting it forward or
backward. And checking their mistakes in writing the numbers because some
of the students write the numbers upside down.
b. What while-listening activity/activities might have helped the learners
more to
understand what they were listening to?
3a.

Did the learners have a post-listening activity/activities?

If they did, select (a); if not, select (b).

a. What were the aims of the post-listening activity/activities?

In their post listening activity, the teacher started to pick up some girls from
different groups and asked them to write the number that she tells them to
write it, and if the students wrote the number incorrectly, she gave them a
chance to write it correctly, and she also helped them to write it correctly if
they couldnt, also she picked other girls to help their classmates if they have
a problem with writing the numbers in wrong spelling.
b.
more to

What post-listening activity/ activities might have helped the learners

understand what they had heard?

4a. How many times did the learners listen to the text / recording?
The students listened to the teacher 1 time on the first activity, but in the second
activity the teacher repeated it 2 times.
b. Would it have increased their understanding if they had been allowed to
listen to the
text/recording again? Explain.
Yes, it can increase their understanding because some of the students can
have some time to understand whats the text is really about, and I actually
think that the record should be repeated because grade 2 students have to
take their time in thinking and realizing the topic and answer the questions.
c. Did the learners hear the whole text at once, or in parts? If so, which was
the most helpful?

They listened to the text into parts, because they cant listen to the whole
text at once, they will get confused if we did that to them. And they have
to take to their time while listening to the text and looking out for the
right answer.

Reflection
Think about the advantages and disadvantages of using the model of pre-, whileand post-listening activities to teach a listening lesson. Write first from the
perspective of the teacher and then from the perspective of the learners.

Most of teachers are using listening lessons in their classes, and listening includes
pre, while and post listening which is the teacher must use it in the class because
the pre listening will help the teacher to engage her students for the lesson and also
that will effect on the students by involving them together and engaging them in a
different way where they can understand the purpose of the lesson from the
beginning, and for the while activity the teacher will be explaining the activity for
the students so they can start doing it together, and the teacher will be helping and
monitoring the students during the activity, and according to the students
perspective they will be ready to do the activity because they already got engaged
on the pre listening part, and they will be doing the activity and applying what they
understand according to their pre listening understanding. And for the post
listening, here the teacher will be checking and making sure that the students
understood everything that they took and ask them questions to make sure of their
understanding. Thats will affect the students perspective by being able to answer
the questions and learning from their mistakes in the post listening.
