Unit Objective
The Comparison Culture lesson is part of a unit covering culture in the United
States.

Lesson Objective

Note: Any assessments used should be aligned to the learning goals and
objectives. Also consider aligning goals and objectives to Blooms taxonomy.
1. Given a computer, TLW research cultures in The United States. TLW choose two
cultures and research their beliefs, customs, ceremonies, and traditions. Using
PowerPoint, TLW will create a presentation comparing their two chosen cultures with
90% accuracy.
2. TLW use Screencast-o-matic to present their PowerPoint presentation scoring a
three out of four on the rubric.
Student Participation
The goal of this lesson is for students to demonstrate clear knowledge of different
cultures in The United States and how they compare to one another. Students will
provide visual representations and a presentation on their findings.

Technology Integration
Students will use the websites stated above as resources to research cultures in The
United States and access images. PowerPoint will be used for students to create a
presentation on the comparisons of their two chosen cultures. Screencast-o-matic will be
used for students to present their PowerPoint. Students, upon completing the PowerPoint,
will save their work to a shared Dropbox folder for their class.

Background and Rationale


Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of similarities
and differences of cultures in The United States by providing visual
representations and a presentation of their findings.

Academic Language is not addressed in IDT 3600.


This lesson is a continuation of TN social studies standard 2.0.
We will refer to the research findings found as we continue to explore the

cultures.
I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master
the objectives and for those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not
covered in this course and are not part of this particular lesson.

Procedures and Timeline


Introduction (10 min)
TTW ask the students to write down their definition of the word culture.
TTW ask two students to share their definitions.

TLW share with their elbow partner how their own culture can
relate to the
video.
Procedures

Prior to the Computer (5 minutes)


Teacher Procedures:
1. After the Introduction,
TTW give students directions
for their PowerPoint
presentation.
2. TTW pass out the rubric
for the assignment.

1. TLW listen to the directions for
their assignment.
2. TLW ask questions if need be.

At the Computer (45 minutes)
