1. The Topic: The topic that I chose is about the elements of a story. The presentation gives
information on each of the parts of the story and why they are important. The
presentation is for the 2nd grade class of Ms. Johnson. This topic is important because
stories are found everywhere. The ability to follow a story can help in leisure activities
such as watching movies, playing story focused games and reading things for class.
2. The Audience: This presentation is for Ms. Johnsons 2nd Grade Class. The class attends
Washington Elementary in Chester, Pennsylvania. The class consists of twenty-five
students. There are thirteen girls and twelve boys. They are six to eight years old. The
class has students of many diverse backgrounds. The students previously read short
stories to introduce this lesson.
One of my students has autism. He is a great visual learner but has trouble
communicating with his classmates. I tell his classmates to respect him and treat him like
they do their other classmates. I accommodate him by trying to make the lessons as visual
as possible. While reading short stories, I gave him a handout that had the stories in
pictures and had him dictate what was happening. This week, I will give him the same
story but out of order while I teach him about the different story elements.
3. The Objectives:
a. Given different elements of a story, students will be able to evaluate their importance
with 100% accuracy.
i.
This objective is met in slides 4-6 where the different elements of the stories
are explained.
b. Given a worksheet with different events, students will be able to put events in the
correct order with 100% accuracy.
ii.
This objective is met in slides 7, 9 and 10 where the different parts of stories
are named and the patterns of events that take place in those sections.
c. Given a story, students will be able apply their knowledge of different phrases to the
structure of a story with 100% accuracy.
iii.
This objective is met in slides 8 and 11, where words are given that convey
the beginning and end of stories.
4. Support Media: The support video that I used was from YouTube. It involves a rap
about the essential elements of a story. It also goes into detail that they the creators think

is important. The purpose of the video is to review the material and give the students a
fun way to memorize the material.
5. ISTE Standards:
3. Model digital age work and learning Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work
processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society.
c. Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers
using a variety of digital age media and formats
d. Model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate,
analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning
The aligned with these two ISTE NETS-T standards are shown through the
communication of information through a PowerPoint and the reinforcement of
information through the videos included.
6. Follow-Up Activities:
1. The students will be handed a paper and will draw their own stories. Afterwards they
will be asked to identify the elements of their stories such as beginning middle and
end and their plot characters and setting.
2. The students will be handed images of an out of order story and will put them in
order.
3. The students will get into groups. They will be handed strips of paper and will be
asked to put the stories in order based on the words on the strip.
