The country of origin that I chose was Chile. The majority of both my parents family live
in Chile. Chiles national flag consist of two unequal horizontal lines. The top line is white and
the bottom line is red. In the top left hand corner is a blue square that extends to the white line
with a white five-pointed star. The original Chilean flag made its first appearance in the fight for
their independence from the Spanish empire. It was later adopted on October 18, 1817. Chile
began to fight for its independence on September 18, 1810 and celebrates their independence on
this day, even though they would continue to fight for more eight years to gain total freedom on
February 18, 1818 ("Chile's Independence Day (Fiestas Patrias)"). The flag went through
changes when the use of the flag was terminated when Spanish defeated rebels in 1814. Three

the Flag of Transition. The Flag of Transition consisted of three horizontal lines with the
colors red, white, and blue. Later the flag made its change to what it is today, the original Chilean
flag (Smith).

Up until 1828 this hymn was sung until it was replaced with what is sung today. The second
version of the National anthem was written in 1827 by a composer named Ramn Carnicer. It

came out in Santiago, in the Arteaga theatre, on December 23, 1828. Many years later the
Chilean government entrusted Eusebio Lillo to replace the anti-Spain poem of Vera y Pintado.
The lyrics of their national anthem entered their final revisions in the year 1909 ("National
Anthem").
