WILDLIFE SAFARI
At Rajgir, Nalanda Bihar

Introduction
The historic city of Rajgir is situated within Nalanda district at about 23 km from Biharsharif in South
-West direction. It is well connected with Patna, Luckeesarai, Nawada, Gaya and Jahanabad through road
network. The Rajgir is also approachable by rail as broad-gauge railway line connects it with Patna. The
Nalanda beside the Rajgir is in the World map from ancient times will have an icon of a world class
safari for the tourists and will develop as centre for Wild Life awareness and conservation centre.
This will also boost to the economy of Rajgir and Bihar.
The Nalanda Prani Vihar at Rajgir will be a centre of knowledge for the different age group people. After the
complete construction and development of the Safari, it will become a centre of attraction worldwide for
conserving various endangered species.
1. OBJECTIVE
It is proposed to set up a wildlife safari at Rajgir the main objective are; - a major tourist destination in
the State thronged by international, national and regional visitors - as a conservation facility for
wildlife and recreational and educational facility for visitors. This will also serve the purpose of
conservation and protection of endangered large mammalian fauna.
2. SITE
The site is situated at South of Rajgir Township beside the NH 82. It is at 2.8 km. from Rajgir Bus Stand.
It is at left side of link road originating from NH 82 and going towards Sonbhandar. The site is situated in
the forest area of Pant Wildlife Sanctuary (35 sq km) under the control of Forest Department, Bihar. The
identified site comprises of 191.12 ha including 71.08 ha of old fenced area which is inhabited by
deer and other fauna.
3. PERMISSION FOR ESTABLISHMENT
National Board of Wildlife has recommended the setting up the Safari at the identified location in the Pant
Wildlife Sanctuary with a few suggestions / conditions in the meeting of the Standing Committee of NBWL
held on 14th March 2015.

Financial:
The Master Plan for the safari has 5 years time frame for the construction and development.
Prioritization of the work is fixed and accordingly the works has been put in particular year.
The estimated cost is based on the broad parameters such as construction cost per sqft,
landscape development cost per sq meter, Construction of boundary wall per running meter
etc.
Estimated cost is almost near to realistic expenditure however during the preparation of Detail
Project Report Item wise SOR Rates will give the nearest realistic estimate.
