Digital Citizenship Unit Plan

Learner Analysis: This unit will be completed with Mrs. Newsoms Honors 9th grade
Literature class which consists of 23 high achieving students. Ten of these students
qualify for the gifted program and meet the Georgia qualifications for gifted.
Content Objectives: Understand Plagiarism as it applies to images from the internet.
Understand why it is important know about plagiarism as it applies to
images from the internet.
Understand how and when to cite images taken from the internet or when
not to use them at all.
Essential Questions: Do I need to cite images that I use from the internet in my school project
Presentation?
Are there images that should never be used at all?
How do I cite images properly?
Assignments: Students will play a game using images from the internet
Students will take a quiz where they determine if a given image is properly cited.
Students will demonstrate that they can cite one image properly in MLA format.
Evaluation: Participation in discussion
Final Assessment

Lesson Plan:
Lesson One- Scenarios students discuss in groups. Each group will come to a consensus as to
whether or not each scenario is a copyright violation and have group recorder write down the
groups answers. Answer: They all are.

Discuss each one with the class.


Lesson Two - Watch video and have students look for the scenarios they just did explained in
the video.
Lesson Three- Final Activity and Assessment -STudents will work together in groups with
chromebooks to find three images they would like to use in a presentation and cite them
properly and make sure they are not violating the copyright laws discussed in the video. Submit
to the teacher for grading and feedback. Students may use headsets and watch the video again.

Differentiation: Students will be divided heterogeneously into groups according to lexile level.
Students who may need assistance at first can get help from the higher level students in their
groups. Also the teacher will monitor the class and help those students who need assistance.
This lesson includes a video/audio presentation that will help learners with various needs.
Students who need to view the videos again will be given extra time. Students who need it will
be given written transcript of video.
Classroom Materials:
Mrs. Newsoms class is equipped with a projector and screen for showing the video to the group.
The students will also use a chromebook with headsets from the chrome cart to view and
complete the lesson and assessments.
