Participating universities or colleges can have at most two (2] teams, each consisting of two (2) contestants and one (1) alternate (aptional) 2. Team members must be a registered freshman, sophomore or junior (first, second, and third academic year] student taking ANY engineering degree program in their respective school. 3. A valid school ID is required for each contestant and a certification attesting the aforementioned qualification must be presented on the day of the registration (authenticated by respective dean or its corresponding designation). 4, A registration fee amounting to One Thousand and Five Hundred Pesos only (1500Php) is required for each team REGISTRATION 1. Accomplish the registration form from the link in our website or Facebook page which will be available on November 12, 2016, Saturday, 7PM. 2. Submit the accomplished registration form (personally, mail or email) End of early bird registration: January 6, 2017 Regular registration deadline: January 28, 2017 3. GENERAL RULES The contest is divided into two (2) phases: Elimination round (written) and the Final round (oral). The coverage of the contest is College Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Calculus, The medium of the contest is English. Only scientific non programmable calculators are allowed (attached herewith is the list of allowed calculators}. For consistency and accuracy, intermediate values must not be rounded off. Final answers must be expressed in two decimal places unless specified. (When the number to the right of the rounding digit is five (5) to nine (9), round up otherwise retain). Indicate proper units as specified in the problem. Answers with improper units and decimal places will be considered incorrect. The decision of the judges is final and irrevocable, ELIMINATION ROUND The written examination will serve as the elimination round that must be taken individually by the team members, including the alternate Each contestant will be given a set of 30 questions divided into categories (Easy, Average, and Difficult} to be answered within two (2) hours. Latecomers will be alowed to take the exam but will not be given extensions. No clarification regarding the set of questions will be entertained, The top 20 teams who got the highest scores, cumulative of the two highest scares of team members, will proceed to the Final Round. ‘Should there be a tie for the 20th slot, all the teams on the 20th slotare qualified to the final round, FINAL ROUND The oral quiz wil serve as the final phase of the competition. Scores from the elimination round will not be carried over (all team scores will be back to zero) Each question will be read twice by the quiz master and answers will be written on provided flash board Final Round will be divided into three: easy, average and difficult rounds. EASY AVERAGE DIFFICULT Number of questions 10 5 5 Time to answer 15 seconds 30seconds 60 seconds Pointing System: Correct, 2 8 s Wrong 0 4 3 Noanswer 0 0 2 All teams can start solving the problem the time the question is asked. The question will be read twice before the timer starts Answer boards will have to be raised right after the tone has been sounded off. Any inquiry regarding the questions/answers will be entertained only before the reading of the next question. The decision of the judges is considered final and irrevocable The alternate member will serve as a substitute if the team wishes to change their contestant. Changing of contestants is allowed only after each round. ‘The top three [3) teams garnering the highest score after three rounds will be declared as the winner of the top three places, respectively. 1. Date and Place of Contest: - The contest will be held on February 4, 2017 (Saturday) at the Electrical Engineering Auditorium, University of the Philippines Los Bafios. + Registrations start at 6 AM up to 8 AM. The program proper will start at exactly 8 AM - The contest will be held at the Civil Engineering Conference Room and CE 101 for the elimination round and Electrical Engineering Auditorium for the final round, 2. Prizes - The champion will receive a cash prize of 40,000 pesos plus, plaque, medals & certificate - The Ist runner-up will receive a cash prize of 25,000 pesos plus, plaque, medals & certificate + The 2nd runner-up will receive a cash prize of 10,000 pesos plus, plaque, medals & certificate + The top scorer in the elimination round will receive cash prize of 2000 pesos plus medal. 3. Certificates can only be claimed during the awarding ceremony. 4, The University of the Philippines Civil Engineering Society (UPCES} Academic Committee shall entertain clarifications regarding the rules of the contest before the star t of the contest. 5, Participants are advised to turn their cellular phones off, while inside the contest venue. Misbehavior of @ contestant during the examination as observed by the proctors is sufficient to disqualify ‘the contestant. 8. The contestants must be at the contest venue 15 minutes before the start of each round. Immediate disqualification shall be imposed to the contestant who failed to appear 15 minutes before the star tof the round 7. Lunch and snacks will be given only to those who have their meal stubs. 8.
