year, Advent rolls around and we celebrate in

many ways the waiting. We sing about it. We
pray about it. We hear stories about it.
And God asks, What are you waiting for?!
We think Advent is all and only about waiting.
We await Gods coming in the person of Jesus
Christ. We await Gods return in the person of
Jesus Christ, when he comes again. And of course
we await Christmas, when we can be done waiting
and FINALLY sing those wonderful Christmas
songs!
And yet, God asks, What are you waiting for?!
You see, while we wait in all our privilege, others
wait for justice as they are shoved aside and
kicked to the curb because their skin is the wrong
color, or they have a different perception of their
sexual identity, or they have fled injustice in their
home country to seek peace here. What can we
do? Besides being more aware of our own
privilege, we can take time to understand what it
might mean to be them. When in conversation,
remind others that ALL are loved by God and
deserve our respect and care.
While we wait in our riches, others wait in lines at
food pantries. They wait for utilities to be
reconnected and hope the pipes dont freeze first.
They are simply waiting for a better day. What
can we do? First, stop asking if they deserve our
help. Second, find ways to help. Support the food
pantry. Support your local utilitys assistance
funds. We may not all have money we can give to
help another. Can you offer a ride? Can you
offer to serve where help is needed?
While we wait for shiny new presents, others are
simply waiting to be noticed, to be loved, to be
cared for. God loves that we are waiting anxiously
for Jesus return! But God doesnt want us to just
sit and wait. God calls us to be active in our
waiting.
What are we waiting for?!
In the Peace of the One who was born to love,
serve, and save,
Pastor
John

What are you waiting for!?!?

That is a question asked often in our house as we
wait for kids to get coats on, get to the table, or get
ready for bed.
But the question doesnt always come out in those
words. Those of you who are parents know what I
mean. We have ways of just saying a name, and it
can have just that meaning.
Patience is a hard thing when youre a parent.
Unless youve got that perfect parenting down and
never lose your patience with the kids. (If you are
that parent, please let me know how you do it.)
We have schedules many placed on us by
schools, work, others and kids just dont always
get it. So we are left to say, in many ways, What
are you waiting for!?
We are quick to remind ourselves that we are all
Gods beloved children. We are given that gift in
baptism and reminded each time we receive Gods
love, grace, and forgiveness. There are times
when we love to feel the loving arms of God, our
Father, wrapped around us comforting us in our
sorrow, strengthening us when we are weak, just
holding us when we need to be held. Its a joy to
know God is always there for us.
Just as we have to ask our kids, What are you
waiting for?! I suspect God, our Father, asks us
the same question over and over and over. Each
