1. What is decision-making?

Decision making is the process of identifying and choosing alternative courses of action
in a manner appropriate to the demands of the situation. Decision making can be defined
as the process of making choices among possible alternatives. The skills considered
important to effective decision making are based on a normative model of decision
making, which prescribes how decisions should be made.
2. Obviously, the manager isnt making any decision. If he chooses to ignore it, he must
be afraid or he cannot make any decision and that is an issue in a management. As
defined, decision-making is about identifying and choosing alternative courses of action
for a particular situation depending on the needs and issues. If a manager chooses to
ignore an issue, he didnt even reach the first step in decision making which is diagnosing
the problem. Therefore he is not making any decisions.
3. Alternative solutions are evaluated depending on the nature of the problem, objectives
of the firm, and the nature of the alternatives presented. Also, each alternatives must be
evaluated in terms of its value, cost, and risk characteristics. Proper evaluation makes
choosing the right solution less difficult.
4. My biggest decision in life that Ive ever made happened in the summer of 2012 when
I got to choose between my dream school and my dream course. I passed UPCAT but
only in Baguio. My transfer application to UPLB was approved but unfortunately, there is
no Mechanical Engineering course offered in the campus. So I applied for Electrical
Engineering instead. But I thought of my dream course. It will dictate my future. If I
choose UPLB over Mechanical Engineering, i would be happy with the place but i
wouldnt love what im studying and what i, doing. And definitely, i wouldnt enjoy my
job and i wont be successful. So in the end. I chose my dream course and enrolled at
Letran Calamba where i am nearer to my family. Truly, i made the right decision. It was
tough but it was right in the end.
