AATE-008 AutoCAD 2000 - Guideline

1.

Organisation

1.1.

Purpose and area of application

1.1.1.

Purpose
This AutoCAD guideline defines the responsibilities, procedures, settings, storage and checking
procedures of AutoCAD drawings.
The drawings are not checked for having been prepared properly in respect of design and
manufacturing.

1.1.2.

Field of application
The AutoCAD guideline is applicable for all drawings which are prepared with the CAD system
AutoCAD 2000.
The AutoCAD guideline is binding for all employees who make drawings with AutoCAD 2000 and
receive AutoCAD 2000 drawings from Engineer's offices/Drawing suppliers. It is specified in the
contract for Engineer's offices/Drawing suppliers to supply their drawings as set forth in the SMS
Demag AutoCAD guideline. It is applicable for foreign employees preparing drawings under the
Personnel Leasing Act (AG). This guideline is applicable for all suppliers who have been bound
by contract to this guideline.
This guideline substitutes all previous versions and can as a whole or in parts be replaced or
amended by project-specific guidelines. Project-specific guidelines are to be requested from CAD
Support ATE2/3.
Project-specific special features of older guidelines may probably still be valid. This must for the
special case be determined between CAD Support ATE2/3 and the specialised department.

1.2.

Organisation of process sequences

1.2.1.

Responsibilities:
The guideline for the making of drawings with AutoCAD 2000 for definition and adherence to the
AutoCAD standard is exclusively drawn up by the CAD support ATE2/3 as working instruction in
the scope of the SMS Demag TQM system. All amendments/additions - also project-specific
regulations for exceptions - are set forth by CAD Support ATE2/3.
Customer-specific special requests must prior to conclusion of contract with the customer by the
Sales department of SMS Demag be checked by CAD Support ATE2/3 for feasibility and be
approved. In the process, CAD Support ATE2/3 will estimate the probably required additional effort
and the costs arising therefrom.
The project management order handling, hereinafter referred to as PLA, ensures that the drawing
supplier/maker charged with the task is provided with all necessary documents and programs (CAD
guideline, order guidelines, basic agreements, installation floppy disks, etc.) in the valid version.
The project manager (PLA) is the contact for technical matters. For technical matters concerning
CAD, the AutoCAD partners must be contacted.

1.2.3.

Distributor
The distribution of the guideline is according to the TQM regulation (see AB100) in the database
system LOTUS NOTES (LN) for all LN users at SMS Demag. The business unit managers are
responsible for the distribution in their departments. The distribution for external suppliers and
drawing providers is done by ATE2/3.
This guideline is additionally available in the SMS Demag Intranet.

1.2.4.

Supplies by SMS Demag

The programs, files and drawings required for making and working on AutoCAD MPP are
distributed according to the SMS Demag guidelines by Engineer's offices charged by SMS Demag
to the Drawing suppliers. CAD Support ATE 2/3 make sure that these Engineer's offices are
informed of the most current status. The Engineer's Offices in turn make sure that the Drawing
Suppliers receive the most current status.

1.3.

Drawing supply to SMS Demag

1.3.1.

Drawing handover in case of external engineering

When drawings are delivered to SMS Demag, a delivery note including the following must be
submitted:
delivery date, project number, codeword, SMS Demag contact, contact of supplier, drawing
number, index, date of making, status (preliminary, final, ...). This delivery note must be handed
over in 1 paper copy and 1 additional file for each drawing delivery. Preference is to be given to the
WinWord or Excel formats.
Prior to drawing delivery to SMS Demag the drawings must be checked by means of the
RECOVER function of AutoCAD. After RECOVER, the drawings must additionally be saved using
the WBLOCK function of AutoCAD.
Procedure for WBLOCK:
1.) WBLOCK command
2.) Confirm file name of the specified drawing
3.) Inquiry: BLOCKNAME:

Input: confirm by ENTER

4.) Inquiry: INPUT BASIC POINT:

Input: 0,0

5.) Inquiry: SELECT OBJECTS:

Input: all

6.) Inquiry: SELECT OBJECTS:

Input: confirm by ENTER

For each drawing a DIN A3 plot is also supplied. As an alternative of the paper copy, also a TIFF
(G4) file may be supplied. This is e.g. required if the delivery is by email. It must be guaranteed that
the paper plot and/or the TIFF (G4) file comply with the current DWG file.
If the drawing delivery has not been made according to the SMS Demag guideline and SMS
Demag is therefore not able to plot the drawings on schedule for triggering the other required
measures (e.g. manufacturing, documentation delivery, inquiries, approvals, etc.), it is the duty of
the Engineer's Office to supply all required (paper, reproducible copy, microfilm) forms in the
required number additionally and without additional invoicing. The handover of the corrected CAD
data must be made in any case.

HB_A4H/0799

Probably necessary economic measures in case of the improper drawing (CAD) delivery are set
forth in the basic contract concerning engineering and design services of SMS Demag.
Untouched hereof is the proper and correct preparation of the drawings in respect of design.

1.3.2.

Drawing inspection

1.3.2.1. Preliminary inspection by Engineer's Office

Before handing over the drawings to SMS Demag, 6 drawings from the drawing delivery must be
checked by the Engineer's Office according to the current SMS Demag checklist. If the drawings
have been made by different people, for inspection also the drawings of those different persons
must be used. The inspection report must be handed over to SMS Demag together with the
drawings as WinWord file.
Project-specific deviations of the checklist currently valid at SMS Demag may exist and must be
requested separately.
Should inspection criteria not have been fulfilled, this must be laid down for the particular case in
indicating the possible reasons. For general information, the text field at the end of the record must
be used.
For supporting the drawing inspection, SMS Demag offers a program under AutoCAD 2000 which
deals with a large part of the points to be checked. This program however does never replace the
manual drawing inspection, because many inspection points cannot be understood by a program.
Here are some examples for this:
The check program searches for dimensions in the drawing and inspects these in respect of the
specified associativity. If however dimensions have been reduced to the EXPLODE, the inspection
program cannot find dimensions here although a person optically interprets a conglomeration of
lines and text as dimension. Dimensions must be associative and must therefore not be reduced to
the "EXPLODE".
AutoCAD hatching must not be reduced to the EXPLODE! If a hatching has not been grouped in a
block, an inspection software cannot see that the parallel lines are hatching.

1.3.2.2. Inspection by Project Manager (PLA) of SMS Demag

The following sequence must be carried out by the PLA:
1.) Ascertainment of receipt of data carrier, inspection record, delivery list and inspection/filing
order.
2.) Storage of the data in the SMS Demag network.
3.) Comparison of the delivery list with the actually existing drawing numbers.
4.) Automatic inspection of all drawings with the check program (latest version).
5.) Manual CAD inspection (random visual check of individual drawings: dimensioning, texts,
formation of blocks etc.).
6.) Filing record back to PLA
7.) Procedure as specified how to proceed with the reserved drawings.

HB_A4H/0799

Should any problems arise for the sequences under point 1 to 5 the further drawing inspection
/filing shall be suspended until complete clarification by the PLA responsible.

1.3.3.

Data exchange
Data exchange via floppy disk is only possible for single drawings. If more than 5 floppy disks are
to be handed over, the data exchange must be made via CD ROM, modem or by email.
Each drawing may for one delivery only be supplied once.
For guaranteeing a proper handling, all drawings of one delivery must be in a directory/archive file.
Additionally all contractually agreed accompanying documents (inspection records, delivery list)
must be made available in another directory/archive file.

1.3.3.1. Modem
For reducing the expenses for data exchange there is the option of being integrated into the SMS
Demag Intranet. If the subsupplier wants to be connected, he has to apply for and request it. The
cost arising hereby are cost prices to be borne by the subsupplier.

1.3.3.2. Floppy disk

Only floppy disks in the 3.5-inch format, 1.44 MB, DOS formatted (FAT file system) shall be used.
The floppy disk is to be marked as follows:
list of files, compression method used, date, drawings status (preliminary, etc.). Self-unpacking files
are given preference. For archives which are created on several floppy disks, only the ZIP or the
ARJ format is admissible. The order of archive floppy disks must be marked appropriately.

1.3.3.3. CD
CDs must be supplied in the format according to ISO 9660 and must be readable under Windows
98 and Windows NT 4.0 systems.
When data are delivered on CD, no files may be compressed.
All drawings of one delivery must be in one directory. Each drawing may per delivery only be
included once.
For part deliveries in which the "final" status and the "for reference" status are existing, a respective
CD for each one must be supplied (see "Drawing identification for original drawings") or a directory
must exist on the CD for each status (preliminary, final).

1.3.3.4. Email
In principle deliveries via email are possible. It must however be taken into account that delays of
hours or even days from the posting of the data until receipt may occur. If data are posted by email,
it must in principle be considered that uncoded data are accessible for everyone.

HB_A4H/0799

When sending an email, the recipient should be notified of the delivery by phone.

1.3.4.

Identification marking of the drawing delivery

For each drawing delivery the definition must be made if this is a preliminary delivery, a part
delivery or a final delivery of drawings.
If a delivery includes a preliminary delivery and a final delivery these must be distinctly separate
(e.g. separate directories).

1.3.4.1. Preliminary delivery

Preliminary deliveries are for preliminary information of the drawing contents and/or for preliminary
inspection of the drawing quality. For a preliminary delivery for example a rough manufacturing
estimate can be made. A preliminary delivery however always means that the respective drawings
are at SMS Demag only for reference and that the ORIGINAL drawing is only existing at the
drawing supplier. A drawing revision can only be made at the drawing supplier.

1.3.4.2. Final delivery

For a final drawing delivery by the drawing supplier to SMS Demag the drawings must after having
been accepted by SMS Demag no longer exist at the drawing supplier. Each drawing revision can
only be made at SMS Demag. Another drawing delivery of an already delivered drawing by the
drawing supplier is not admissible.
The original drawings are now only at SMS Demag and must for a possible drawing revision by the
drawing supplier be newly sent to the drawing supplier by SMS Demag.

HB_A4H/0799

All drawings ordered by SMS Demag are the exclusive property of SMS Demag. After plant
acceptance at the customer the project-handling management in charge must effect the deletion of
the data at the engineer's offices.

Basics

2.1.

Introduction
This part of the guideline determines the procedure for the preparation of AutoCAD drawings.
Normally the settings of AutoCAD Mechanical 2000 Power Pack will be adopted. Only cases where
specific corporate matters, experience and works standards require the contrary, other
specifications have been made.

2.2.

AutoCAD version
The drawings must be prepared and processed in the AutoCAD Mechanical 2000 Power Pack
version under Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5). All other versions of AutoCAD and other
operating systems are not permitted. This version is hereinafter referred to as AutoCAD MPP.
The drawings must originate from AutoCAD. No DWG formats of foreign sources, no AutoCAD LT
or DXF or other foreign formats read into AutoCAD are permitted.
AutoCAD MPP must be configured according to SMS Demag specifications. Converting from one
AutoCAD version to the other is not permitted.

2.3.

Additional applications
AutoCAD additional applications must be approved by CAD Support ATE2/3. Structures in the
drawing which are not based on the AutoCAD MPP Standard must likewise be approved by CAD
Support ATE2/3.

2.4.

Manufacturer's catalogues
Manufacturer's catalogues must be approved by CAD Support ATE2/3.

2.5.

General regulations
As a general rule, all drawings must be made according to the general standard of CAD working
principles. Among these are e.g. associative dimensioning, hatching, block structures and the
deleting of elements no longer required such as points and double elements (on top of each other).

When producing new drawings, the template SMSDemag.DWT must be used.

Customer drawing numbers must not be used for naming files.

No external references may be used.
The use of paper space is not permitted. Drawings shall only be prepared in model space (tilemode
= 1).
No 3D drawings may be created. The Z coordinates of all drawing elements must have the value 0.
Objects (also texts) with an object height may not be produced.
All drawing elements must be drawn to scale.
In the final drawing delivery there must not be any elements outside the frame.
Should, when placing an order for the production of drawings, copies from old orders be made
available, the current guidelines must be adhered to even in such a case. This also applies if the
copies are not in conformity with the guidelines. This also applies when placing an order with
external companies.

Dimensioning
The dimensioning must be produced using AutoCAD MPP.
All dimensionings are on layer 5. All dimensions must be associative. The dimension number may
not be overwritten with text. The dimensioning may not be located within a block. The dimensioning
may not be reduced using the EXPLODE command under AutoCAD.

2.10.1. Dimensioning variables

The dimensioning variables must be set acc. to the definition of the dimensioning style GEN-ISO in
the SMS Demag specimen drawing SMSDemag.dwt.
Detail scales, deviating from the main scale must be created with the AutoCAD MPP function
"scaling area view window".
The scaling area window (VPORT) may not be deleted, the VIEW layer may be closed.

2.10.4. Tolerances and fits

Tolerance specifications for dimensioning are not to be prepared as separate text but must be
prepared with the respective AutoCAD MPP functions.

2.10.5. Tolerances of form and position

Tolerances of form and position must be created using the AutoCAD MPP functions. Reduction by
means of Explode and embedding into blocks is not permitted.

2.10.6. Alternative units (Inch)

In SMS Demag drawings, as a general rule the metric system is used. Dimensionings are to be
carried out metrically. Should order-related requirements demand dimensioning with alternate
units, these will be explained in a separate order-related guideline. This approach may deviate from
the present guideline and is binding for the relevant order.
Special DWT files shall be made available for the preparation of inch drawings.

2.11.

Standard drawing elements

The surface-finish symbols, welding symbols, welding seam symbols, instruction lines, cuts and
cutting sequences and hatching must be created using the AutoCAD MPP functions.
Reduction by means of Explode and embedding into blocks is not permitted.

2.12.

Block structures
Each view of a single part is produced as a block.
The dimensioning is not contained in the block.
Each welded part (consisting of metal sheets, welds and sections) is grouped into a block.
Assemblies consisting of several single parts such as couplings, brakes and universal
joint shafts are grouped into a further block.
Standard parts are produced as a block.
For layouts, each single part must be produced as a block.
Single parts of an assembly which have a functional relationship are to be grouped into a
further block.

HB_A4H/0799

All blocks are to be inserted on layer 0.

Functional blocks (blocks for frames, title block, stickers etc.) may not be integrated into a
further block.

SMS Demag additional programs

Introduction
This part of the guideline describes the functions of the SMS Demag additional programs. The
following programs are described hereunder:

title block program

check program

3.2.
3.2.1.

The SMSTITLE title block program

General regulations
In order to ensure the automatic incorporation of the title block data from AutoCAD into the SMS
Demag logistics systems, it is necessary to create and process the title block via an AutoCAD
function specially programmed for SMS Demag. This function checks whether all the requisite
fields have been completed and the fields have the required format. A direct processing of the title
block with the AutoCAD "DDATTE" command or similar commands is not permitted!
Only the frames and title blocks for AutoCAD made available for a particular project must be used.
For the preparation of new drawings or for the incorporation of existing drawings in new drawings,
the frames provided must only be used in conjunction with the SMS Demag frame functions.
Drawing frames and title blocks are blocks which may not be changed, renamed or reduced to the
Explode by those preparing drawings. Furthermore, these blocks may not be embedded into other
blocks. Frames and title blocks must be in a drawing only ONCE.
The position and scaling of the drawing frame is correctly produced by using the SMS Demag
frame functions. A modification of these values (i.e. by shifting or twisting the frame) is not
permitted. The frame coordinate origin in the lower left frame corner is in the World Coordinate
System on the coordinate x,y = 0.0. The values LIMMIN (x,y = 0.0) and LIMMAX (top right frame
corner) will be set automatically and may not be changed.

3.2.2.

Responsibility
Drawing frames and title blocks are produced exclusively by CAD Support ATE2/3.

3.2.3.

Starting the program

The program is started with the command "SMSTITLE. At SMS Demag the command is
incorporated in the SMS Demag menu. There is only one command for creating and editing the title
block. The program checks whether an SMS Demag title block exists in the drawing and then starts
the insertion or the editing of the title block accordingly.

3.3.

The CHECKDWG check program

3.3.1.

Introduction
The CheckProgram checks if the SMS Demag guidelines have been observed in the drawing and if
specified values from the specimen drawing SMSDemag.dwt, the SMSDemag.lin line type file and
the SMSDemag.cfg configuration file have been adhered to.
This check can however only be a rough overview of all specifications because it can for example
not be detected if a dimension reduced to the explode is intended to be a dimension and if an
associativity is given.
It creates a report file having an identical file name as the drawing file. The contents of the report
file shows the adherence of the specification as well as the contraventions.
If during the check of a drawing no contravention is found, this does not imply that the
drawing is in all points in conformity with the SMS Demag guidelines!

3.3.2.

Starting the program

The "CHECKDWG" command starts the program. At SMS Demag the command is incorporated in
the SMS Demag menu.

HB_A4H/0799

The dialog window of the CHECKDWG check program:

In the overview frame "Layer structure" and "System variables" the layers found and/or the
specified system variables are compared to the specifications of the SMS Demag guidelines and
the result is displayed in the "Status" column.
In "Statusframe" the overall drawing status and the number of the contraventions against the SMS
Demag guidelines is shown. With the "Fault correction" button various faults can be automatically
corrected (control by means of another dialog window, must probably be made several times).
