1.1.1 Defines
Deadweight
Deadweight tonnage is a measure of a vessels
weight carrying capacity and doesnt include
the weight of the ship itself. Is shouldnt be
confused with displacement (weight of water
displaced) which includes the ships own weight
nor other volume or capacity measure such as
gross tonnage or net tonnage (or their more
archaic forms gross register tonnage or net
register tonnage) .
Displacement
Light Displacement (LDT)
The weight of ship excluding cargo, fuel, water,
ballast, stores, passengers, but with water in boilers to
steaming level.
Loaded Displacement
The weight of the ship including cargo, passengers,
fuel, water, stores, dunnage, and such other items
necessary for use on a voyage.
Full Loaded Displacement
Full load is defined as the displacement of a vessel
when floating at its greatest allowable draft as
established by classification societies (and designated
by its waterline.)
