SLO- analyze and incorporate source material smoothly and accurately,

One of the student out comes that I accomplished in this artifact is analyzing and
incorporating source material smoothly and accurately. What this means to me is
that I was able to read and understand the sources involved with the paper. Then I
successfully was able to use the source in my paper to support my thesis
statements. I learned how important it is to be able to do this correctly. If your
sources are not being incorporated smoothly and accurately you will be writing a C
paper.
The artifact that I chose is the first writing assignment I was given in English 201.
This assignment was a very interesting assignment because it took place before the
election. The assignment was to read First Lady Michelle Obama and Ivanka Trump
speeches at the National Convention. Then decide on a speaker and analyze the
rhetoric they used to persuade the audience. We were also supposed to figure out
what the speaker was trying to achieve using these rhetorics.
This artifact was developed despite many challenges that I faced. During the writing
process of this paper I was nervous and intimidated by the work that lied ahead of
me. I began to analyze the two options in my papers and decided that Obamas
speech seemed more sensible and I would be able to find rhetorics easier. I
annotated the speech then I found it easier to create and outline. One I had the
outline I had a good amount of evidence from the text and I was able to start typing
away.
This assignment that I choose is an example of me accomplishing this student
learning outcome. I was able to analyze two separate text and make a decision on
which speech to use. When I decided on the Obama speech, I then procced to
complete the Student learning outcome by finding rhetoric in the paper to use as
my support. I found good evidence of the rhetoric used by Obama in her speech and
also found the purpose to her work. I was really proud of this artifact that I turned
in.
SLO- document sources correctly in MLA format
In this artifact there was another student learning outcome that applies. The SLO
reads that documents sources are correctly in MLA format. What I interpret this SLO
to mean is that I was able get the sources involved in the paper and create a work
cited page. Also that the quotes that I used from the sources are properly set up.
This is very important because in text citation is accepted but plagiarism is highly
penalized.
This artifact is a rhetorical analysis paper. The instructions were pretty simple
analyze the source and find the rhetoric devices used. In the source I had to use,
Michelle Obama also known as the former First Lady, used logos, pathos, and ethos
in order to convince the American viewers that Hilary is right for president. In this
artifact I have many quotes as examples of the different types of rhetoric being
used. It also required a work cited page.

In this artifact I had many issues in my writing. However I felt confident in the
quotes that I used to support my thesis. The work cited page was also rather easy
because I only had one source that was given to cite. I had many question on how
to us the quotes in my writing so I had to look many rules up in the writes reference
book. In this artifact my main concern was grammar and mechanics and I managed
to score relatively well over all.
This artifact helped my complete the SLO that requires students to document
sources correctly in MLA format. I accomplished this skill by using the correct in text
citations. I was able to properly address the source and give credit to the source
when appropriate. I also created a work cited page. This key SLO is very important
because I realized in this course how frequently having to cite and creating a work
cited page is. I accomplished this SLO and I will continue utilize this skill in all my
courses.
