Description of how to implement in the class:
Students have been working on analyzing literary texts and their elements. The class
just finished a 3 week study on Charlottes Web through read-alouds each day. For a
final project, the students will be completing a report on a character of their choice.
The students will fill out a graphic organizer, created as a Word template, to get their
information into a neat, structured format. After completing this step and gaining all
information necessary about the character of their choice, they will create a narrated
PowerPoint on their character. Each student is allowed to choose any character from
the book that they liked. With assistance from the character graphic organizer, the
students will write a script about their chosen character that will be used as a
narration in their presentation. When this step is complete, the students will use
Microsoft PowerPoint to create a presentation, using clipart and other images. The
presentation will have a title slide, but will be told with pictures and images, and the
narrated voice of the student. Each students presentation will be shown to the class
for students to share their product, as well as be informed about the other characters
they did not focus on in their personal project. The graphic organizer and narrated
PowerPoint will allow the students to be engaged in their own learning and study of a
character from Charlottes Web. This lesson will help them better understand the
content in the book, details from characters, and planning skills.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi):
This lesson would reach LoTi 4. In this learning experience, students are creating their
own products for class display. Students are given choices of what characters to
chose or how to approach their final product, in narrated PowerPoint form. In this
lesson, the students are engaging in the higher levels of Blooms Critical Thinking like
evaluating and creating. The students are creating a product that is unique and
meaningful to them in order to share it with the teacher as well as peers in their
class.
Description of the sample spreadsheet and graph/chart provided *:
The students will be provided with a template to fill in as a graphic organizer with
information about a character from the book Charlottes Web.
Attached will also be an example of the narrated PowerPoint the students are to
create.
