Dear Parents, Students, and Community Members

It seems the 2015-2016 school year just ended, but here we are already on the threshold of a
new school year. This year we will once again see many new faces on our faculty and staff as
we replace those who have retired or moved on. We are certain we have hired highly qualified
candidates and look forward to having them become a part of the DCS educational community.
We hope that you will find this calendar helpful and informative. Our on-line calendars are also
sources of the most current information. Events listed in this calendar, as well as a host of other events, are found in the on-line District Calendar. Athletic schedules are available in the online Athletics Calendar. Both calendars are updated continuously to reflect as many scheduling
changes as possible, and are available under the Calendars link on the DCS homepage at
www.dolgeville.org. In addition, the most up-to-date information can be found at our District
Facebook page. The link to this page is found at the bottom school's webpage.

Wishing you all a healthy, happy, and successful 2016-2017 school year

Mrs. Christine Reynolds, Superintendent

Safe Prom, Testing and Graduation Season
Prom/Testing/Graduation season brings excitement and dangers. Please
keep these two important reminders with you during this time:
Safety - Adults that serve alcohol to minors are legally liable. Please
do not put our students at risk. Please talk to your child about the
dangers of driving recklessly, drinking and other foolish behavior. We
all want to have happy memories of this school year.
Academics - Students need to be in school and rested. Ask how they
are doing. If you have any doubts, call the guidance office at 4293155 ext. 2800. Seniors cannot walk the stage unless they have all of
their requirements met!
Dance Guest Policy
It is the general policy of Dolgeville Central School to keep our dances
closed to ensure student and chaperone safety, and provide an atmosphere conducive to good clean fun for our students. However, in an
effort to give our students the opportunity and privilege of inviting
friends to Dolgeville dances from outside the district, the Board of Education has decided to allow students to bring a guest to the Homecoming
Dance, Winter Semi-Formal, Valentines Day Dance, and Prom under the
following conditions:
Student guests from outside the district must be under the age of 21.
Each Dolgeville student who wishes to invite a guest must complete
the district dance guest request form and submit it to the high school
office by the Monday prior to the dance along with a copy of the
guests drivers license or birth certificate.
The DCS student is responsible for his/her guests conduct.

State-Mandated Notices
Policy for Acceptable Use of District Technology
Students of Dolgeville Central School District have access at school to electronic telecommunications and District owned/provided hardware and software. The primary educational goals of this access are increasing the accessibility of information, improving communication, increasing the integration of technology into teaching and learning, and preparing
students for full participation and citizenship in a technology-dependent world.
Network and internet access are provided as educational tools. Dolgeville Central School
District reserves the right to monitor, inspect, copy, review and store all usage of the computer network, internet, and data/information created, transmitted, or received during
usage. All such files, data, and information shall be and remain the property of the Dolgeville Central School District and no user shall have any expectation of privacy regarding
such materials.
Dolgeville Central School District uses internet filtering software in compliance with the
Federal Childrens Internet Protection Act and it is the Districts belief that we must do our
best to support our students learning in a manner that supports the District mission while
providing a safe learning environment. Use of filtering software cannot guarantee that all
inappropriate sites can never be accessed. However, it drastically reduces that possibility.
Any attempt to bypass school filtering or security will result in disciplinary action.
The complete Policy for Acceptable Use of District Technology can be found on the district
website under the Board of Education tab on the main page.
FERPA
Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Dolgeville Central School
District may release the following defined directory information: student name, age, major field of study, grade level, participation in sports and activities, weight and height (for
members of athletic teams), dates of attendance, honors/degrees/awards, and photograph. Allowing directory information permits the District to use student directory information for such limited purposes as school yearbooks and newsletters, honor roll lists,
graduation programs, musical theater programs, sports programs, and other similar uses
without obtaining individual consent. A parent or eligible student (a student 18 years of
age or older who is attending an institution of post-secondary education) has the right to
request that directory information not be disclosed without prior written consent of the
parent or eligible student. Directory information does not include a students social security number.

FERPA Continued...
In compliance with the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965, as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), and the National Defense Authorization
Act, the School District by law routinely releases this student directory information to Military Recruiters. Any parent/eligible student wanting to opt out of the public, nonconsensual
disclosure of directory information to Military Recruiters should notify the district in writing
by September 10th of each school year. Letters should be sent to Daniel Guenthner, High
School Guidance Counselor at Dolgeville Central School, 38 Slawson Street, Dolgeville, NY
13329, or e-mailed to dguenthner@dolgeville.org.
Dignity for All Students Act (DASA)
The Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) was signed into law by Governor David A Paterson in
2010 and became effective on July 1, 2012. The intent of DASA is to provide all public school
students with an environment free from discrimination and harassment and to foster civility
in public schools.
As a result of DASA, students will receive instruction that supports the development of a
school environment free of discrimination and harassment, including, but not limited to,
instruction that raises awareness and sensitivity to discrimination and harassment based on
a persons actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion,
religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender (including gender identity or expression), and sex.
Also required by DASA, the District Code of Conduct has been updated with language that
complies with DASA. A complete copy of the Code of Conduct is available on the district
website under the Board of Education tab. Hard copies are also mailed to the households
of all students annually in August.
Under DASA, all school employees will undergo mandatory training regarding DASA and its
implementation on the first superintendents conference day annually. The District also has
appointed three DASA coordinators. School staff, parents, students, and others may reports
incidents of discrimination and harassment to the following DASA coordinators:

Calling All Parents...

It is critical that parents partner with our school to ensure that their children are
receiving the highest quality education possible. The following are several ways
that we encourage parent involvement:
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Because parental involvement is so important, our district sets aside one full day
and one half day every year at the end of the first marking period, and one half
day at the end of the third quarter for parents to conference with their childrens teachers. This is an opportunity for parents to discover how their children
are doing in school, what their childrens strengths and/or needs are, how parents can assist their children at home to be more successful in school, and what
services the school can provide to further assist their children in school.
Contacting Teachers
In addition to these regularly scheduled conference days, parents are encouraged to contact their childrens teachers at any time with questions or concerns.
Parents are encouraged to contact teachers via phone, voice mail, or e-mail (all
of our teachers e-mail addresses may be found on the District website), or to
set up a time to meet with teachers in person.
Parents as Reading Partners (PARP)
PARP is a collaborative effort among students, parents, staff, and the community
to build a partnership between home and school. Reading is the single most
important activity in a childs education. Students who read at home become
better readers and have higher success rates in school. As part of PARP, parents
set aside just 15 minutes three days per week to read with their children. (Of
course, reading more than that is just fine with us!)
PARP kicks off on in January and every parent, grandparent, and sibling will
want to be sure to be in attendance at the PARP Finale on the evening of
Wednesday, February 15th, 2017.

DESPTO and STPA

The Dolgeville Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (DESPTO) supports grades K-6 while the Student-Teacher-Parent Association (STPA) supports
grades 7-12. Both of these organizations work to enrich the educational programs and provide positive social and extracurricular opportunities for DCS students and their families. ANYONE is welcome to attend their meetings and to
assist with the multitude of activities these groups plan for our students.

Health & Safety Information

Visitors to the School
During the school day there are only two doors where visitors may enter the
building: the front door to the high school building and the front door to the
elementary building. When entering these doors, all visitors are asked to sign
in at the security office windows. Visitors will be issued badges, which they
are required to wear throughout their stay in the building. After signing in
and being issued a badge, visitors will be admitted to the school through the
security doors and be directed to their destination. We appreciate your cooperation with this process which protects the safety and security of our students, and also minimizes any disruptions to the educational process.
Security Camera Privacy Statement
Dolgeville Central School District utilizes exterior and interior security cameras
on and in of all district buildings as well as on its school buses. Security cameras are used to discourage and identify violations of the District Code of Conduct; protect persons and property; and, when necessary, provide law enforcement assistance in the prosecution of criminal activity. Cameras are installed in public locations where students, staff, and visitors would not have
an expectation of privacy, such as hallways, cafeterias, and entrances/exits.
Cameras are not and will not be installed in areas where staff, students, and
visitors have a reasonable expectation of privacy, such as restrooms and locker rooms.
Asbestos Awareness
In accordance with the reporting requirements of the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), Dolgeville Central School has undergone a Surveillance Report. No changes in asbestos conditions in the school were noted
since the previous inspection. For more information about asbestos management and awareness, contact David Redmond, the Districts Asbestos Management Coordinator, at 429-3155 x. 1752 or
dredmond@dolgeville.org.

Emergency Closings
Dolgeville Central School uses the SchoolMessenger messaging system to deliver
important messages to parents of our students. The message system may deliver
routine reminders, important information, or emergency announcements such as
school closings or delays. In order to insure that you receive our SchoolMessenger messages, the school must have accurate phone numbers on file. To update
your phone contact information, please notify the following people as soon as
possible: Grades PK-6 Paula Mosher at 429-3155 x. 1701; Grades 7-12 Lacy

School Nutrition Services

Could you use an extra $558 per child in your pocket this year? If so . . . read
on!
How can I save this much money per year per child?
If your family qualifies for free breakfast and lunch, each child in your family can
eat breakfast and lunch in the school cafeteria FOR FREE for the entire school
year. This would be a savings to you of $558 per child!
How much would I save if my family qualified for reduced price breakfast and
lunch?
If your family qualifies for reduced breakfast and lunch, each child in your family
would be able to eat both breakfast and lunch at school for a total of only $.50
per day a savings of $2.60 per day or approximately $468 per child for the
school year!
What if my family already qualifies for food stamps? (SNAP)
If you quality for and receive food stamps, you automatically qualify for free/
reduced lunch. If your name appears on the Direct Certification list you will receive a letter from the school stating you automatically qualify. If you do not
receive a letter, you can (1) fill out an application or (2) provide the district with
a copy of the letter from the Department of Social Services (DSS) verifying that
you qualify for and/or receive food stamps.
What if my family doesn't qualify for Snap? How do I apply?
Free/reduced lunch applications are sent home with students the first day of
school. Simply complete the application and return it to your childs classroom
teacher, or to Mrs. Allen in the District office. If your family qualifies, your children will begin receiving free/reduced lunch as soon as paperwork has been
processed.
What if my child didnt bring home an application?
Applications are available in the elementary office, the high school guidance
office, and the District office.

Is the application difficult to fill out?

It can be a little tricky, but for savings of $468 to $558 per year per child, its
definitely worth the effort!
Do I have to fill out an application for every child in my
family?
No! You only need to complete one application per family. All the children in
your household will be listed on the one application form.
Wont it be embarrassing for my child to receive free or reduced lunch? Wont
other students make fun of him?
Absolutely not! All students have accounts and enter PIN numbers in the cafeteria, regardless of their lunch status. Since paying students put money on their
account, which is electronically debited when the student enters his/her PIN
number, no one knows who is paying for lunch or who is receiving free/reduced
lunch. Also, the Federal free/reduced lunch program falls under strict privacy
guidelines.
Are there any other reasons I should apply for free/reduced lunch for my
family?
Yes! The percentage of students in our District who qualify for free/reduced
lunch is figured into State and Federal school funding formulas. If your family
qualifies, youll be helping our students receive the State and Federal aid they
deserve. Since our food service program receives no local funding, and operates
only on sales of school meals and State and Federal aid, youll also help our food
service program stay financially healthy when your children eat breakfast and/or
lunch at school.
What if I have questions?
Mrs. Allen in the District office can answer any questions you may have. You
may visit her personally in the District office, or call 429-3155 x. 3000.

Transportation Rules and Guidelines: (a complete list is available in the District
Code of Conduct)
Students must pass in front of the school bus far enough to be seen by the
driver. Students must wait at the right side of the highway, 10 feet ahead of
the bus, for the school bus driver to motion them to cross. This is the most
dangerous activity of transporting students because the student is not inside
the bus.
The school bus is an extension of the school grounds and behavior not acceptable in school is not acceptable on the school bus.
Students must cooperate in the maintenance of clean, sanitary, and comfortable transportation. Public Health regulations prohibit eating and chewing
gum on a school bus.
In no phase of the school program is horseplay or fooling around more
dangerous, than on a bus.
The school bus driver is designated as the authority on the bus. Repeated
infraction of the rules is to be reported to the building principals or superintendent of schools. Incorrect behavior may lead to the suspension of riding
privileges.

Parent and Spectator Behavior, Ethics, and Consequences
Student-athletes compete with honor and integrity, and play for the love
of the game, so lets all cheer for our team, have fun and support the spirit of Section III Athletics.
~ New York State Public High School Athletic Association
General Guidelines: The following are guidelines for parent and
spectator behavior and ethics which are promoted by the New York State
Public High School Athletic Association.
Direct all energies to encouraging your team.
Avoid actions which offend visiting teams or individual players.
Show appreciation of good play by both teams.
Learn the rules of the game in order to be a more intelligent spectator.
Treat all visiting teams in a manner in which you would expect to be
treated.
Accept the judgment of coaches and officials.
Encourage other spectators to participate in the spirit of good
sportsmanship.
Be positive.
Parent Conflicts with Coaches or Officials: From time to time, conflicts arise between parents and their childrens coaches or the officials.
At no time is it appropriate to go onto a field or court of play to approach
a coach or official whether before, during, or after an athletic contest,
regardless of the venue. Additionally, it is inappropriate for a parent to
verbally confront a coach or official at any time before, during, or after an
athletic contest. If a parent has a conflict with a coach or official, it is expected that the parent will contact the coach or the athletic director via
phone the day after the athletic contest to discuss the conflict or ask to
set up a meeting to address the conflict in person. The athletic director,
building principal, and/or superintendent will be in attendance at the
meeting.

Consequences for Unacceptable Parent/Spectator Behavior

Parents or spectators who engage in unacceptable behaviors before, during, or after athletic contests regardless of the venue will be warned
and requested by school staff (principals, superintendent, athletic director, coaches, chaperones) or officials to stop the said behaviors. Parents
or spectators who do not comply with said requests will be directed to
leave school premises. Parents or spectators who refuse to leave shall be
subject to ejection and/or arrest. Depending on the severity of the behavior or repeated violations over time, the parent/spectator may be
immediately ejected and/or banned from attending athletic events in the
future.
Athletic Code Of Conduct
In order for a student-athlete to participate in the schools Interscholastic Athletic Program, the student-athlete and his/her parent or guardian
must meet eligibility requirements for the sport as well as complete the
Athletic Code Of Conduct.
The Code of Conduct includes the following sections:
Eligibility | Philosophy and Goals of Athletics at DCS | Medical Standards Eligibility for Participation | Selection Classification | Attendance
| Team Travel Rules | Equipment and Property | School Vacation/
Recess Participation Policy | Varsity Awards and Honors | Training
Rules and Team Discipline | Penalties for Athletic Code Infractions |
Self-Reporting of Alcohol or Substance Use/Abuse | Reporting Student
Athlete Violations | Citizenship | Automatic Team Suspension | Athletics and Academic Standing | Parent and Spectator Behavior, Ethics, and

musicians from three counties who are selected by solo audition. All festivals culminate in Saturday afternoon concerts that are open to the public.
