SURVEY ANSWERS

The survey study questions aimed at determining the public view of the police. The
researchers came up with ten questions to address the research question what is your public
view of police? The respondents were male and female from four races namely; Asians,
Hispanics, African Americans and Whites.
African Americans
The answers of the interviewees ranged from excellent, good, fair, poor and not sure.
Seven African American respondents aged 20-52 took part in the survey. One male rated the
attitude of police as fair; the four respondents rated them good, and one female rated it fair while
another female respondent was not sure. Regarding whether there is a presence of police in their
neighborhood, three males responded to the affirmative while one male negated. One male
asserted that the police were present now and then while another male and one female denied.
The remaining woman response was kind of.' Regarding whether the respondents thinks there
should be more police in their neighborhood, four male, and one female respondent negated
while one male preferred the status quo. The remaining female respondent preferred the presence
of the police to be now and then citing that she lives in a safe neighborhood.
Regarding BLM, none of the respondents had positive feelings about it. Only one female
respondent agreed with them but disclaimed that she does not hate the police. On the issue of
respect, only one respondent offered a non-committal response with the rest responding to the
affirmative. Both female respondents and two male respondents have had issues with police
while the remaining respondents had none. However, both female respondents and two male
ones were not sure if the police help or ignore them, but the remaining three respondents
believed that the police helped them. While four of the respondents thought that the police were
not out to get their race, three were skeptical with one male saying that a few of them were. This

population profoundly felt that distinct races are most targeted by the police. Four respondents
mentioned black as the targeted race while the rest said Muslims, Hispanics, and whites. Only
one respondent was saying that none of the races is focused. Three respondents said that wealth
did not determine police treatment while three felt it does, the remaining respondent was not
sure. All respondents felt that media plays a key role in influencing societies views of police.
The Asians
This population consisted of eight respondents aged 17-27; three males and five females.
Regarding the polices attitude, six respondents felt that it was good while two were unsure. The
presence of police was confirmed by six respondents while two negated. Seven respondents
maintained that there should be no increment of police in their neighborhood while one said it is
required. All the respondents stated that BLM was wrong and ridiculous. However, only one
respondent had no respect for police officers as the rest stated they appreciated them. None of the
respondents had had any issue with the police while seven felt that police them. Only one male
respondent said that the police ignored him. Seven respondents maintained that the police are not
out to get their race while one responded to the affirmative. Regarding which race is most
targeted by the police, six respondents mentioned African Americans while the remaining two
said Hispanics. Five respondents indicated that wealth determines how police officers treat
people while three negated the claim. Finally, all the respondents blamed media for the way
societies and Asians view the police.
Whites
The respondents were four females and four males aged 17-24. The first female
respondent was unsure regarding police attitude but was sure of police presence I her

neighborhood; she did not see any need for increment. Regarding BLM, the respondent stated
that she is not racist and all lives matter. She respected the police although she has had an issue
with police. Sometimes this respondent felt that the police were ignoring her while at other times
they were helpful. Blacks were the most targeted race by the police and wealth was a
determining factor in the manner in which police treated people according to this respondent.
She also affirmed the role of the media in constructing police perception in various races and
societies. The second respondent was the male who had an excellent attitude towards the police.
The police were present in his neighborhood but should be increased if the budget was allowed.
To this respondent, BLM is nonsense, but he respected the cops, and his issues with the police
were warranted. He maintained that the police helped him when in need but when not they
ignored him. However, the police were not out to get any particular race. However an
individuals wealth was key in swaying police treatment, but the media played a key role in
creating a perception of the police to the public.
The third respondent was a female who felt that police had an excellent attitude. There
were officers in her neighborhood, and no more were needed. To her, BLM was unimportant
while she respected the upstanding police officers. She felt that good officers are helpful and
they do not target any race. However, police treatment is not determined by wealth while the
media construct police images to attract the masses. The next male respondent said that police
had an excellent attitude, but he did not want them in his neighborhood. To this respondent BLM
is irrelevant, he respected the officers, but he had never had issues with them. The police are
helpful, and he had never been ignored by them. The white race is not targeted by the police, but
the black is, due to their criminality. The wealthy people are not favored by the police nor does
the media impact on the societal perception of police according to this respondent. According to

this female respondent, the police had an excellent attitude. Her neighborhood has one police,
and BLM is unnecessary. She respected the police although she has had no issue with them, she
believes that officers are helpful. The police neve ignores nor is they out to get any race; the
blacks warrant the trouble they get into according to her. Wealth influences police treatment
while the media makes the Blacks feel hated by the police.
The next male respondent felt that the officers are doing fine, while there are far too
many officers in his neighborhood. BLM fuels racism and hate crimes according to him, but he
respects some officers. The respondent had an incident with the police, but they sometimes help.
Although the whites are not targeted by the police, the blacks are, largely because they are
disrespectful, obnoxious and loud. The wealthy people offer bribes to the officers for fair
treatment while the media escalates the manner in which police are viewed. The last respondent
was the female who maintained that police had an excellent attitude. According to this
respondent, there are enough police in her neighborhood. She has no problem with BLM, and she
respects the officers immensely. She has had no issue with the officers, and they are helpful to
her. The police do not target any race although the media insinuate that they do so African
Americans. Normally, the wealthy are not offered preferential treatment, but the media is to
blame for the perception of police in America.
Hispanics
Seven male and female Hispanics aged 20-47 took part in the survey. The first male
respondent said police had a fair attitude, and there were police in his neighborhood, but he was
unsure if more were needed. He did not address the BLM issue, but he respected the officers
although he had no issue with them. The police are helpful and do not target Hispanics, but they
do blacks. Wealthy people are sometimes favored, but the media play a fundamental role in

shaping the perception of police in the US. According to the second male respondent, police had
an excellent attitude, and they were plenty in his area. BLM was irrelevant, and he respects the
officers although he has never had issues with them. Police are helpful and do not target any
race, but are sometimes swayed by wealth. The media impacts the public perception of police.
According to the third male respondent, police had a good attitude. There were enough
police in the respondents neighborhood, and he was unsure about BLM. He respects the officers
but has had no issue with them. The police are helpful and do not target Hispanics but blacks.
Police are swayed by wealth and the media the fourth mare said that the police have an excellent
attitude, there are police officers in his place and he is opposed to BLM work. He respected
police and had had an issue with them although they are helpful. Police do not target Hispanics,
but Blacks and they are swayed by wealth while the media shapes publics perception of the
police.
The fifth respondent found polices attitude good and there is a high presence of them in
his area. BLM is misinformed, he respects police but has had no issue with them. He regarded
the police as helpful and do not target any race, besides, they are not swayed by wealth. This
respondent also saw the media as shaping the public perception of police. The first female found
police having a fair attitude; they are present in her neighborhood and BLM heightens
separation. She respects the police, but they target blacks and are swayed by wealth. The media,
however, shapes the public perception of police. The last female respondent said police have an
excellent attitude, are helpful, do not target any race and are plenty in her neighborhood. She
does not understand the role of BLM, has had no issue with the police and they are not swayed
by wealth. However, the media impacts on the way the public views the police.

Conclusion
Most of the respondents had a positive regard of the police officers with only a few
responding negatively regarding the rogue ones. However, the whites had the greatest regard for
police officers. Most of the respondents with the view that the police targeted any race pointed
out the Blacks as the targeted race. However, there was a general perception that BLM is
unnecessary as it increased separation. On average, the respondents had a positive public view of
the police although some of them are swayed by wealthy offenders. The media was highly
blamed for the public perception of the police.
