Fall 2016
Rationale Statement-Standard # 11

Standard # and Title: Ethical Practice

Teachers shall act in accordance with legal and ethical responsibilities and shall use integrity and
fairness to promote the success of all students (NJDoE, 2014, Pg. 14).
Artifact: Time Sheet and Evaluation Form

Date of Completion: 12/8/16

Course Completed in: EDUC 230-01 Education Field Experience

Rationale Statement:
For this artifact, we were asked to complete thirty hours of observation in whatever
classroom we ended up being assigned too. While completing this observation, we were allowed
to do as much as our cooperating teachers let us do, but none of that was mandatory. In my case,
it was more observation then really getting hands-on, but it was the teachers discretion. This
artifact directly correlates to the performances section of standard eleven because the teacher
reflects on his/her own personal biases and accesses resources to deepen his/her own
understanding of cultural, ethnic, gender, and learning differences to build stronger relationships

and create more relevant learning experiences (NJDoE, 2014, Pg. 14). This artifact correlates
with that part of the standard because, as I was completing this observation, I meet many
different children and got to know a few and hearing different students stories it really shows the
importance of diversity in school. In addition, it really demonstrated how important it is to
realize that all of these students have different lives and stories and, as the teacher, you have to
realize that and no one student is the same as another. Lastly, this artifact directly connects to the
performances section of standard eleven because, as a future teacher, it is important to build
relationships with your students and deepen those relationships is also imperative for the overall
success of the class.
While completing this artifact I learned a lot about being a teacher and the pursuit of
becoming a teacher, but the one thing that I will really take away from this experience is doing
the small things and developing relationships with your students. The small things that I will
remember is grading, taking attendance, managing an active classroom, working with other
professionals, and keeping everyone on- task together. In my opinion, these are the little
everyday things that, as a teacher, you get used to doing and it becomes second nature, but for a
pre-professional, like myself, this was the first time I was truly exposed to these everyday
normalcies. Also, this artifact taught me that working with students and really getting to know
them helps the class run more successfully. But, a big lesson that I learned while completing this
artifact is how to manage an active classroom, keep the students focused for 40 minutes or so,
and work with other professionals to ensure the success of each student. Finally, by completing
this artifact I will take away the experience as a whole because it was a positive experience
because, even though it was observation, there is a lot of information I can take with me to my
future profession.

This artifact can defiantly be used in my future profession as more of a mental note and
the beginning of me understanding what it takes on a daily basis to become a teacher. Obviously,
this artifact will not be helping me in a physical sense it will be with me mentally because the
whole observation experience was getting my feet wet for more in the Education field to come.
This observation period can be used in my future profession because I now know some of the
daily responsibilities of being a teacher and operating a classroom, so this beginning experience,
plus more to come throughout my education, can only help me in the future. In addition, this
artifact can be used in the future by also being a state of mind and remembering how I felt in
certain situation and either avoiding them in the future or dealing with them head on. In
conclusion, this artifact has taught me a lot and left me with many memorable moments and
information and will defiantly be a good tool to remember as a future professional and even
throughout the rest of my education before the career.
