In this activity, students will use the

StudyBlue application to prepare for their
civics quiz. Students will create flashcards
focusing specifically on George
Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Susan B.
Anthony, Helen Keller, Jackie Robinson,
and Martin Luther King, Jr. Students will
find two different descriptions/pictures for
each person, creating 14 flashcards total.
For example; The front of two flashcards
will say Martin Luther King, Jr. and on
the flip side, one card will say I Have a
Dream speech and on one card, an
image of the person can be included. This
will help students become more familiar
with each person and their importance.

As the teacher, beforehand, I will read

about each of these people, showing
images and going into greater depth
about how these Americans contributions
improved the lives of other Americans in
ways they can understand.

In this activity, students will use the

MindMeister application on any device
they choose. In groups of 2-4, students will
work together using this app to make a
map using a list of words and affixes.
Students will take a word, for example, the
root word would be kind, and in a
different branch that is connected to that
one, the students would check the list and
create a synonym and antonym
branch and choose the words (from the
list) kindness and unkind and put
them in the right place and from there the
students will break it down to the prefixes
and suffixes, ly and ness. The students
will create 4 different branches total so
they may each choose one word and do
them or they may work on each one
together.

As the teacher, I will be going over the

words on the list and explaining to the
students how the mind map is to be
completed by showing a picture as an
example for better understanding so the
students dont get confused.
