The six Beliefs

What do they mean?

How are they expressed in the Muslim

community?

Belief in Allah

The most important belief is in the

Supreme Being Allah.
He created the universe and,
without him, nothing would exist.

This belief encourages Muslims to be

thankful for all Allah has done.
They express this gratitude through
worship and prayer

Belief in the Angels of

Allah

Angels are called malaikah in Arabic.

They are heavenly beings created to
perform tasks for Allah such as
delivering messages.

Muslims respect the malaikah of Allah.

At the end of prayers they turn their
heads left and right and say peace be
upon you to the angels or anyone
praying next to them.

Belief in the Books of

Allah

Holy books are known as kutuballah

or books of Allah.
Muslims believe they contain Allahs
messages.
These include the Sahifah (Scrolls),
the Tawrat (Torah) and the Injil
(Gospels).

Many Muslims study the kutuballah as a

way to improve their knowledge.
Lessons in different religious texts are
also taught in some mosques.

Belief in the
Messengers of Allah

Muslims believe that Allah has

chosen prophets or messengers to
teach and guide people to the right
path.
Muslims believe more than 124,000
prophets have appeared in the world
and Muslims should believe in all of
them.

Many Muslims are named after different

prophets.
They are taught about them so that they
can learn from their example.

Belief in the Day of

Judgement

The Quran teaches that the entire

universe will end.
The dead will be resurrected and
Allah will send people to either
jannah (paradise) or jahannam
(hell).

This reminds Muslims about their limited

time on earth and that they will
inevitably meet Allah.
This belief is expressed at funerals.

Belief in the decree of

Allah

Muslims believe that Allah has supreme

power over the universe.
He has also given humans free will so
we are responsible for our own destiny.
Allah will not interfere unless he wishes
to.

This teaches Muslims about the need to

accept Gods will.
Many Muslims seek blessings on a special
night called Laylat al-Qadr , or Night of
Power.

Why are the six Beliefs important to Muslims?

1. They are mentioned in the Kitab al-imam Hadith:
The Angel Jibril asked the Prophet Muhammad to Inform me
about faith
Muhammad replied It is that you belief in Allah, and His
angels, and His books, and His messengers, and din the Last
Day, and in the decree of Allah.
2. For Sunni Muslims it is compulsory to believe in all six of the Beliefs.
3. If they follow these they believe they are on the right path and will
please Allah.
