Pride and Prejudice is an article that highlights the LGBT community of
Georgia and its struggle to gain hate crime laws specific to sexual orientation. The article
explains that only 21 states have hate crime laws that include sexual orientation as a
protected group. The article also talks about the certain cities that do have LGBT friendly
laws, since it is state jurisdiction. The information in this article concerning state
jurisdiction is what made it significant to my research paper.

"Antigay Hate Crimes Are a Serious Problem" is an article written by the
Human Rights Campaign and is centered on hate crimes and laws regarding them.
HRC expresses that these attacks on the LGBT+ community are often extremely
violent and are done to prove a point. My reasoning for citing this article was for

the information stated surrounding how many states hold hate crime laws that
include sexual orientation as a protected group.

Chavan in "The Changing Landscape of LGBT Rights in Employment
Law" discusses the employment law that makes it illegal to discriminate against
sex. The author states that since sexual orientation discrimination is not illegal,
cases sometimes fall under the category of sex discrimination. I felt this article
was significant to my research paper because of its statement that sexual
orientation discrimination is not illegal.

This article written by several authors is important to my research due to
the description of hate crimes that is used. The article is mostly about a study that
was done on several different trials that were said to be hate crimes. The authors
found results that were all over the charts.

Gerstenfeld's article titled "Hate crime" focuses on the origin of hate crime
and hate crime laws. Gerstenfeld analyzes hate crime laws and how they
originated as state jurisdiction. This article was important in relation to my
research because of its documentation on the punishment of hate crimes. The
article declares that conviction of a hate crime results in an increased punishment.

In "LGBT Youth Suffer Long-Term Effects from Bullying", two college
professors write about two studies that they conducted concerning the long term
effects of school bullying. The results were negative health effects in LGBT youth
and gender nonconforming teens, which is the articles significant relation to my
research.

Nicholas Ray, a senior policy analyst for the National Gay and Lesbian
Task Force, declares in this article that LGBT youth make up a higher percentage
of homeless adolescents than their heterosexual peers. He explains that family
conflict is the main cause of homelessness and that over half of LGBT teens
received a negative reaction from their family when they came out as gay. Under
the circumstances that a clear correlation exists between this article and my
research, not one this about this article is insignificant.
