EXERCISE 2.2 CAREER RESEARCH

athletic-related injuries or illnesses, or maintain peak physical fitness. May provide first
aid or emergency care

Thinking, Monitoring, Speaking, & Active Learning
4. The minimum education and or training requirements are graudate school and some may
require a masters degree and some, a Ph. D., M.D., or J.D. Being an athletic trainer
requires extensive skill, knowledge, and experience and may require more than five years
of experience as well as some on-the-job training.
5. A professional degree is required for this career. You will need to obtain a Bachelors
degree at minimum or a bachelors of science degree in athletic training or another
related field. You will also need to pass the Board of Certification (BOC) exam to
become a certified athletic trainer.
6. The education and or degree requirements will take a minimum of 8 years. At this point
in time, I do not know if I am willing to commit
7. The salary for an athletic trainer is very modest at about $40,000 per year. Overall, the
total salary and or total pay ranges from $30,643 to $55,347.
8. The job outlook for athletic trainers is bright seeing as how there will be a projected
10,400 job openings in the field by 2024.
9. Other sources to pursue more information in this field include the National Athletic
Trainers Association, Occupational Outlook Handbook, Board of Certification for the
Athletic Trainer, and the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.
10. Some other research that I need to do to help me decide or to help validate my career
decision is to figure out what schools offer athletic training programs and if possible,
shadow a professional in the field of athletic training so I can decide whether or not it is
something I want to pursue.
My overall and ultimate goal is to become a certified athletic trainer which will require a
ton of extra school based off of the requirements to become a certified athletic trainer.
