PURPOSE:

Page No.

This method statement described the control sequence of construction and methodology to
carry out the Excavation work below blinding level and execute of pile cutting.

2.0

SCOPE:
The scope of works is to excavate the casted piles till the level of the bottom of the blinding
as per the approved shop drawings and proper stock piling of excavated materials to the
approved dumping places. The pile reinforcement will be debonded by PVC sleeves up to
pile cut off levels. The piles will be cut by hydraulic pile cutters/trimmer operated by an
excavator then the pile shall be broken manually using small cutting tools to achieve
accurate cut off levels for pile treatment.
This must be ensured that the pile concrete will be sound and secure during whole
operations. The cutting stresses will not be transferred to the pile concrete by applying this
procedure. The risk of damage to pile concrete has been avoided.

4.3 Roles of the Logistics Team:

The purpose of the XXX Logistics Team is to implement and coordinate the
objectives set out within this document. The primary responsibilities include:

5.0

Security and Access Control

Delivery Management and Material Movement and Distribution
Housekeeping and Waste Management
Temporary Works
Stores, Warehouse and Asset Control
Facilities Management of Project Offices
Welfare Management and Maintenance
Traffic Management and Vehicle Movement Control
Coordination with Authorities
Coordination with External Contractors

PROCEDURES:
5.1 Pre-construction Activities /Approvals

Approved drawings shall be required incorporating all necessary details for

excavation levels and pile cutting.
Ensure the perimeter area are secured with proper access, shifting and lifting of
materials are monitored by the HSE.
The surveyor will established layout plan as required.( as per approved drawing )
Ensure that work area is clear and safe.
Ensure that HSE & QAQC procedure are established.

5.2 Excavation Methodology

5.2a Site existing condition and full survey take off.

A specialist survey company will do a full survey for the site location and insert
3nos control points to form a baseline for all survey works related to all site
activities and out coming with a full report and to identify the scope of work
limits.
Full survey marking will be done on each pile to identify the required cut off
level.

5.2b Mobilization

XXX subcontractor will mobilize his plants and equipment and a full completion
of the health and safety procedures including the safety induction prior to start
as per project safety plan.
All subcontractor resources will be checked by both operation and health and
safety teams prior to start.
The levels will be checked to allow proceeding with excavations.
All excavated materials will be removed out of site and cart away to an approved
dumping place.

5.2c Excavation , Pile Cutting and Trimming

PVC sleeves will be installed over the reinforcement up to the cut-off levels and
their ends will be sealed.
Excavation and piles cutting will start on the same time in an area to prevent any
future problem for access to piles then directly after, the trimming team will start
to trim by using hydraulic pile cutters/trimmer and other Electrical/pneumatic
breakers to reach the final cut off levels.
All excavation works will be as per the approved shop drawings and shall be
checked by surveyor.
Excavation shall be done in accordance with all safety and environmental
requirements.
During the excavation process, proper care shall be taken not to damage any part
of the existing piles
Once the Excavation is reached the 5cm above formation level, the final 5 cm of
soil shall be removed manually in order not to disturb the soil at formation level.
After excavation is reached the formation level, surveyor to mark the pile cut off
levels on each pile using spray paint.
The piles shall be cut down by hydraulic ring breaker/trimmer until they reach pile
cut off level and Final level will be reached by using light small manual breakers.
Soil at formation level shall be compacted as per the specifications.
Waterproofing system will be very well protected.
Each area will be checked for any existing underground utility if it exists and all
precautions will be taken.

5.2d Work sequence and program:

All excavations, pile cutting and trimming will in accordance with the project
program as it shows the sequence from one area to another to form a full
sequence for all the following activities.
A two weeks look ahead program will be issued to show the areas progress.

5.2e Pile Integrity:

6.0

Pile integrity will be maintained by trimming/breaking the Pile head by hydraulic

Ring type trimmer operated by Excavator.
Further isolating the rebar from concrete by installing PVC sleeves over the
reinforcements will ensure no transfer of cutting stresses to Pile concrete below
Cut-off level.

QUALITY CONTROL
6.1

All Significant stages of work shall be ensured by Project Engineer/ Site Engineer and
Quality Control Engineer to conform to the drawings, specifications and manufacturers
recommendation.

6.2

Inspection Requests (IR) shall be raised to Consultant for the following stages of
work:
- Completion of excavation and pile marking prior to pile cutting.
- Completion of pile cutting & trimming prior to pile treatment.

7.0

SAFETY MATTERS

8.0

No site activity will start before full HSE induction to all people and all equipments
that may be used must be checked for compliance in XXX/HSE/Standard Project
Instruction and XXX/HSE/Minimum Acceptable standards
All works will be performed as per the XXX Leighton Middle East Project HSE Plan
and approved comprehensive risk assessments.
To ensure safe excavation XXX/HSE/MAS00246 Excavations will be strictly
followed. Such as provision of safe batter and angle of excavation, access and
egress, barriers and suitable signages and warning devices around the
excavations. And regular inspection of excavations will conducted by the
supervisor/engineer.
Risk assessment is attached as appendix1.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURE

Emergencies are controlled in accordance with the company management system

requirement and cover the following emergencies:
Major accident such as collapse of structures/excavation
Fire explosion

9.0

The project in-charge shall act as emergency coordinator and shall ensure that
minimum emergencies preparation and protection measures are in place.
Weekly checking shall be conducted by the HSE team/ Engineer in-charge to
confirm that emergency measures are in place ( e.g. emergency nos. up to date )
Regular drill shall be conducted.
