The syllabus of this course can be divided mainly into two sections- Classical
Mechanics and Quantum Mechanics.
Classical Mechanics was introduced, and Lagrangian and Hamiltonian functions and
their applications were discussed in detail.
Further, Quantum Mechanics was introduced and its importance was made clear. In this
section, main stress was given on Schrdingers equations and Relativistic
Quantum Mechanics.
Chemistry (AC-1101)
This course covered all the three major sections of chemistry: Organic Chemistry,
Physical Chemistry, and Inorganic Chemistry.
In Organic Chemistry, there was an in-depth analysis of the types and mechanisms of
Substitution and Elimination reactions. In physical chemistry, Chemical Kinetics
and Photochemistry were covered and in Inorganic Chemistry, students gained an
insight on Co-ordination Compounds and Titrimetric Analysis.
Mathematics (AM-1101)
In this course we took a look back on the Real Number system. The concept of
Convergence of Sequences and Series and various other properties and theorems
related to the same were taken up. Sections of Differential Calculus including
Continuity, Limits, Maxima and Minima, Point of inflection etc. were discussed in
detail. Topics of Integral Calculus and Calculus of Vector-valued functions were
also looked upon.
Engineering Thermodynamics (ME-2102)
Work and heat transfer pdV, displacement work, heat transferrin system
First law of thermodynamics closed system, energy, enthalpy, heat capacity, isolated
system, flow process, mass and energy balance
Second law of thermodynamics heat engine, heat pump, carnots theorem, efficiency
Entropy and energy entropy generation, adiabatic work, entropy change, quality of
energy, exergy in closed and steady flow system
Properties of pure substance steam tables.
Cycle rankine, carnot, otto, diesel, dual, Brayton, refrigeration cycle

In each of these workshops, we understood and gained the basic practical skills which
will come in handy in our future as an engineer.
Physics Practical (AP-1301)
The Physics Practical focused on the Mechanical aspects of Physics. Various
experiments were performed which included the determination of surface tension,
viscosity, specific rotation of cane sugar, moment of inertia, acceleration due to
gravity, Youngs modulus etc. Also experiments were performed to verify the laws of
conservation of momentum and energy in an elastic collision.
CHEMISTRY (AC-1202)
Organic Chemistry
In the organic chemistry section SN1, SN2, SNi, Elimination reaction, mechanism of E1,
E2, SN1, SN2, SNi, E1CB, Factors affecting rates of reaction, solvents polar, nonmolar, protic, aprotic, aromaticity, reaction on aromatic compounds, oils, polymers,
soaps and detergents were covered.
Inorganic Chemistry
In this section different types of titration, namely
Argentometric
Redox titration
Complexometric
conductometric
Unit 2 Correspondence
Mathematics (AM-1202)
Physics (AP-1202)
This course was divided in two parts, namely
Electromagnetic waves: This section covered Biot savart law, amperes law, maxwells
equations and Laplace equations.
Optics: This section includes reflection and refraction of light, polarization, diffraction,
Youngs double slit experiment, fraunhofer diffraction and Newtons rings
The Physics Practical focused on the Electromagnetic and Optical aspects of Physics.
Various experiments were performed which included the calculation of wavelength of
monochromatic light by Newtons ring experiment, Fresnel biprism , Nodal distance
by Nodal slide , refractive index of prism by spherometer , Wavelength of light by
minimum deviation method , Conversion of galvanometer to ammeter and
voltmeter , study of variation of magnetic field on the axis of Helmholtz
galvanometer and use of potentiometer to compare e.m.f of two cells, internal
resistance and comparison of two resistances .
CHEMISTRY LAB (AC-1401)
In this practical course the chemical changes and behavior of different chemical species
and reactions were observed. These include determination of free fatty acids in a
given oil sample , Critical solution temperature, determination of order of reaction
, various titrations including thermometric , complexometric and redox titrations
and determination of free chlorine in a give water sample .
Manufacturing Practices(ME-1302)
In Manufacturing Practices, we covered a total of 8 workshops namely7. Welding
8. Carpentry
9. Foundary
10. Electroplating
11. Black Smithy
12. Sheet Metal
In each of these workshops, we understood and gained the basic practical skills which
will come in handy in our future as an engineer.
