This article written on the American Historical Associations website is about historians in
Federal, State, and Local history. It gives a description of what local historians do and how they
affect their states. It gives an overview of the field and an idea of training required for becoming
one of these historians. The article also provides trends in the job market relating to federal and
state governmental jobs as historians.
This article has relevance to my inquiry project because Im doing research on the
different careers in the field of history. The article provides details about how local historians
work and thing that they would deal with in their field. Other jobs such as federal historians are
interesting to find out more about. As a historian, you must be able to look at differing
viewpoints and argue one side or another depending on what stance you have towards the issue.
The United States has need of these different types of historians to provide services and
information on a variety of topics.
This article is credible because of several underlying reasons. The website it is published
on is the American Historical Association which is a prominent organization for history related
jobs and topics. The article has relevant data and information relating to the topic discussed. The
website is on an organization website link and gives understanding of the content.

The publication is about the aspect of public history and what it means to be a public
historian. The author is describing the perspective of public historians and the value of history
from an intellectual standpoint. The author also discusses the new directions in which public
history is heading in and the role models of public history. The author ends by giving practical
advice to students interested in studying history and to do research on public history.
In this reading, I found out more about a sect of historians which is public history and it
is something that I could possibly make a future career in. This text applies to my inquiry
question because I want to know more about the careers in history and its relevance in many
different fields of jobs. The fact that the author is essentially trying to convey a message to
possible curious students of history to research more about public history is an important point.
The source does a very good job of explaining the relevance of studying public history.
This source is credible because the author Robert Kelley is a renown public historian.
Kelley also has a memorial award named in his honor that gives money to people that instill the
importance of history in ordinary people. Kelley was a campus leader and a professor for 38
years in California. The journal he wrote, The Public Historian was published in 1978.

This website is a summary report about historians and different categories such as tasks
and work activities and skills people must know to become historians. The site offers in-depth
facts about the different abilities that one needs and other information. The website has
information of employment trends and wages as well as related job occupations. The historian
webpage has information about the type of education needed to become a historian.
This website is useful to me to further my inquiry question because it explains all the
necessary steps and traits I need to be able to work on becoming a historian. This gives me a
broad idea of tasks and skills I will need to work in this field. The importance of the tasks are
listed and even offers job openings so I could essentially continue to delve into the profession

even more. The site has the areas where the occupation stresses the most would be a good place
to start building upon for the future.
The webpage is a credible source because of different reasons. The Bureau of Labor
Statistics takes information from this website and credits the site for the information relating to
the historian profession. Another reason is the fact that it is an organizational website and is
therefore used by other websites to refer too. Lastly, it has factual information based on research
and materials relating to occupation.

This source is a government website that details the job description and duties of a
historian. The purpose of this article is to educate readers on the historian occupation and provide
resources to assist people in pursuing a career in the related field. The source provides multiple
statistics on the pay rate, job percentage, and jobs by state and area. The occupational handbook
also adds information on how to become a historian and the type of work environment that might
be seen.
This website is important to further my inquiry project because it has very useful
information and data relating to the occupational of a historian. The website provides the types of
jobs that historians can be involved in and the pay rate and description of the job. This gives me
insight into what historians do daily and opens more research possibilities on what type of
historian I would want to be later in life. Learning about the pay rate and percentage of jobs per
state helps me to better understand whether I would have to move in the possible future or
consider another type of historian job.

Quarterly and was written by a historian by the name of Alfred F. Young. In the article,
Young goes into detail about his career in history and how his job as a historian was
shaped because he felt he was somewhat of an outsider. He talks about his life before
becoming a historian and what schools he attended to achieve his masters degree. Young
became interested in American history and the subjects of popular movements and trying
to give ordinary citizens a voice. Most of the article details his challenges and triumphs in
the historical field of study.
This article is relevant to my inquiry topic because the author was a historian during his
lifetime and he provides valuable information regarding how he could have a career in history
despite being considered an outsider. He talks about his processes of how he takes different types
of sources relevant to what he is researching and provides evidence to prove an argument. Alfred
Youngs background adds to his career in history as he was an activist and became fascinated by
historical events. This piece provides a unique perspective of an actual historian and his
experiences and how he goes about solving problems related to history.
This is a credible source because of several reasons and factors. For one the author,
Alfred F. Young, is a well-respected historian and a 50-year member of the American Historical
Association. The article is peer-reviewed and the publisher is the Omohundro Institute of Early
American History and Culture. The author is purpose of writing this information is to inform the

readers on how he approached his life with a historical perspective. The author is qualified to
write on this topic because of all the years he spent doing research and studying history.
