Task: - What is the role of computer in handling different informations

There are many uses of computers in handling informations.

(1) Computers have the advantage of producing accurate results. It can perform variety of tasks
at a time automatically. When a raw data is given to the computer, it works on it and then
produces the output as a result. This result can be taken in a printed form as well.
(2) Computer can perform different operations, arithmetic or logical. In this way, Computer has
become very handy. Now days in every field of life the computer plays the most important role.
The computer can store retrieve and process data so that they become information.
(3) Often a distinction is made between kinds of computers. The mainframe is a full-scale
computer; often it costs millions of dollars, which is capable of handling huge amount of data.
The most powerful mainframes are supercomputers, which are used for engineering, simulation,
and the manipulation of large databases. These computers are often connected with peripheral
equipment.
(4) The microcomputer is even smaller and may be a desktop computer, home computer, or
personal computer for a business system is disappearing with the introduction of the
microcomputer and the linkage of smaller computers into a network.
Among the many business applications the computers are material requirement planning,
manufacturing resources planning and purchasing.
(5) The computer also aid design and engineering, an application which make the space program
possible. Then it is also use in processing financial information such as accounts receivable and
account payable, capital budgeting. It also makes organizational design.

Use in Information technology:VINAY THAKUR

(13/NR/UT/ME015)

A term used to refer to a wide variety of items and abilities used in the creation, storage, and
dispersal of data and information.

Data: Raw facts, figures, and details.

Information: An organized, meaningful, and useful interpretation of data.

Knowledge: An awareness and understanding of a set of information and how that information
can be put to the best use.

Communications Network: A set of locations, or nodes, consisting of hardware,

programs, and information linked together as a system that transmits and receives data
and information.

Data Communication: The transmission of data and information through a communications

medium.

Handling informations in business organization:VINAY THAKUR

(13/NR/UT/ME015)

Computer technology has great application in almost all kind of businesses. Almost all kind of
business relying on computers for automating their traditional processes
Business communication:Now a days companies use email, live chat system, online meeting tool, meeting conferences as
a principle of communication between employees, suppliers and customers.
Payroll system:Computerized payroll system is used in different organizations to maintain pay accounts of
employees easily and quickly.
Advertisements:Computers play a vital role in advertising. Whether they are paper notices on board or electronic
billboards and online advertisements, every advert via any media is fully done with a computer.

Data management:Todays most companies store digital versions of documents on servers and storage devices.
These documents become instantly available to everyone in the company, as of their
geographical location.

At different level of management

Operational level:At operational level most of the organizations have automated computer system for handling
their transactions. The use of computer drastically increases the speed at which the transaction
occurs and provides greater accuracy.
Middle level:This level also benefits by the use of computers and automated systems. The computer helps the
manager to take crucial decisions and help in solving problems.
Top level:In most of the companies top level management uses the executive information system which are
structured and automated tracking systems. The major advantage is that the system provides the
top level management with effective updates of slightest change in the working.

In Engineering as a computer integrated manufacturing:It is the manufacturing approach of using computers to control the entire production
process. This integration allows individual processes to exchange information with each other
and initiate actions. Although manufacturing can be faster and less error-prone by the integration
of computers, the main advantage is the ability to create automated manufacturing processes.
Typically CIM relies on closed-loop control processes.
Computer-integrated manufacturing is used in automotive, aviation, space, and ship building
industries. The term "computer-integrated manufacturing" is both a method of manufacturing
and the name of a computer-automated system in which individual engineering, production,
marketing, and support functions of a manufacturing enterprise are organized. In a CIM system

functional areas such as design, analysis, planning, purchasing, cost accounting, inventory
control, and distribution are linked through the computer with factory floor functions such
as materials handling and management, providing direct control and monitoring of all the
operations.

As a method of manufacturing, three components distinguish CIM from other manufacturing

methodologies:

Means for data storage retrieval, manipulation and presentation;

Mechanisms for sensing state and modifying processes;

Algorithms for uniting the data processing component with the sensor/modification
component.

CIM is an example of the implementation of information and communication

technologies (ICTs) in manufacturing.
CIM implies that there are at least two computers exchanging information, e.g. the controller of
an arm robot and a micro-controller of a CNC machine.
Some factors involved when considering a CIM implementation are the production volume, the
experience of the company or personnel to make the integration, the level of the integration into
the product itself and the integration of the production processes. CIM is most useful where a

high level of ICT is used in the company or facility, such as CAD/CAM systems,
the availability of process planning and its data.
So after studying about the use of computer in handling information I can say that now days it is
generally became the essential part of our life as the computer basically can store retrieve and
process data so that they become information. The most powerful mainframes are
supercomputers, which are used for engineering, simulation, and the manipulation of large
databases. These are the different uses of computers as for the handling informations.
