My Group decided to do our presentation on Animal Testing. Animal testing is a procedure that
scientist perform on many different animals for research. The research that they are looking for
are ways that can help cure many different diseases. The research can also help them decide what
medicine will work on humans to help sickness. Even though the research helps us and provides
us with valuable information, it also harms and damages many innocent animals in the process.
"Guinea Pigs and Hamsters - American Anti-Vivisection Society." American Anti-Vivisection
Society. N.p., n.d. Web. 08 Dec. 2016.
I used this web source funded by the American Anti-Vivisection Society (AAVS) to learn more
about the use of guinea pigs and hamsters in research for animal testing. In 2012, guinea pigs
were the highest of any animals held in U.S laboratories. The audience for this article targets
those who want to know more about animal testing and are willing to make a change in order to
help the animals that are targeted in many of these test and research laboratories.
Adam, David. "Why Use Guinea Pigs in Animal Testing?" The Science behind the News.
Guardian News and Media, 25 Aug. 2005. Web. 08 Dec. 2016.
This source explains the background information that started the use of guinea pigs in animal
testing. Robert Koch was a German scientist that used guinea pigs that helped him discover that
TB was caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis in 1882 and ever since then scientist have been
using guinea pigs. Scientist are able to use guinea pigs because they have a similar immune
system just like humans.
Gensler, Harry J. Ethics: A Contemporary Introduction. London: Routledge, 1998. Print.

This text gave me plenty of background information of ethics. It was a much easier read that
helped explained difficult words in a simpler context.
Gilligan, Carol. In a Different Voice: Psychological Theory and Women's Development.
Cambridge, MA: London, England, 1998. Print.
Carol Gilligan really helped me understand more about feminist ethics. She explained the
experiences of women and their feelings from a women point of view. It was much easier to
relate to what she had to say and being able to connect because she dealt with some of the issue
herself.
Shafer-Landau, Russ. The Fundamentals of Ethics. New York: Oxford UP, 2010. Print.
We used this book all throughout the semester and it really gave me a great understanding of
ethics. It provided many different types of ethical theories some of which were easy to relate to
everyday life. I enjoyed reading this book this course because it was very interesting. I never
really thought about my actions in the ways that they were explained in the book.
