Rain Gauge:
Materials Needed:
Jar
Ruler
2 Sharpies (Different colors)
1. Place ruler next to jar like the picture below shows.
2. Use one sharpie to mark each inch on the jar.
3. Use another sharpie to mark each , , and of an inch in between
your 1 inch marks.
4. Label your jar: Rain gauge or Snow gauge. Ask you teacher if you do
not know which one you should write.

Snow Gauge Instructions:

Jar
Ruler

Barometer Instructions:
Materials Needed:
1 Straw
1 Rubber band
1 Balloon
Tape
Scissors
1 Jar
1 Sharpie
1. Cut the long skinny part of the balloon off. Put balloon over opening of
jar. Stretch the balloon till it is flat over the top. Use rubber band to
attach it. The rubber band will make sure no more air gets into the jar.
2. Tape one end of the straw to the middle of the balloon that is on the
jar.
3. Title your jar: Barometer (with a sharpie). You may need to borrow a
sharpie from another group.
4. The straw should be horizontal. (We will not be making a sheet of
paper like in the picture.)
