Additional comments on Planning For Student Learning


Ms. Petito provided students with critical thinking questions to engage in a Socratic-like discussion
about chapter 4 of The Great Gatsby.
Additional comments on Teaching For Student Learning
Students were engaged in a small group discussion about chapter 4. Ms. Petito then engaged
students in a whole group discussion by adding her personal connections to the text. Critical
thinking questions and starting the group with a small group discussion allowed for students to
share their ideas in a small setting first then join the whole group.

Ms. Petito monitors students in small group discussions to assess their understanding of the topics
and themes introduced.
