ACTIVITY 1
1.1 Infant Mortality Rate

= 1.091/ 133.649
= 0.0081 Or 8 per 1.000 live births
This means there are 8 infants death on every 1.000 live births.
1.2 Neonatal Mortality Rate

= (1.091 x 61.1%)/ 133.649
= 666.6/ 133.649
= 0.00498 Or 5 per 1.000 live births
This means that there are 5 neonatal infants death on every 1.000 live births
1.3 Postneonatal Mortality Rate

= (1.091 x 38.9%) / 133.649
= 424.4 / 133.649
= 0.00318 Or 3 per 1.000 live births
This means there are 2 postneonatal infants death on every 1.000 live births
2.1 Crude Death Rate from all causes for females

= 42.988/ 5.037.098
= 0.0085 or 8 per 1.000 female population
This means there are 8 females death on every 1.000 female population

Fovilia Dewi, FETP, 2016

2.2 Death rate from heart disease among females

= 14.332/ 5.037.098
= 0.0028 or 3 per 1.000 female population
This means there are 3 females died from heart disease on every 1.000 female population

2.3 Proportion of all deaths among females due to heart disease

= 14.332/ 42.988
= 0.333 or 333 per 1.000 females death
This means there are 333 females died from heart disease on every 1.000 females death

ACTIVITY 2
1. Unintentional injury specific mortality rate for the entire population
=

( , )
( , )

= 106.742/ 288.357.000
= 0.00037 or 37 per 100.000 population
This means there are 37 death of unintentional injuries of death per 100.000 population.
This is a cause specific mortality rate.

2. All cause mortality rate for 35-44 years old

=

( , , 35 44 )
( , , 35 44 )

= 91.140/ 44.917.000
= 0.00202 or 202 per 100.000 population (of the same group)
This means there are 202 death of 35-44 years old (all races, both sexes) from all causes per 100.000
population of 35-44 years old (all races, both sexes).
This is age specific mortality rate.

Fovilia Dewi, FETP, 2016

3. All cause mortality rate among males

=

( , )
( , )

= 1.199.264/ 141.656.000
= 0.00846 or 846 per 100.000 population (of the same group)
This means there are 846 males death from all causes per 100.000 males.
This is a sex specific mortality rate.

4. Unintentional injury specific mortality rate among 35-44 years old males
=

(, 34 44 )
(, 35 44 )

= 12.012/ 22.367.000
= 0.00054 or 54 per 100.000 population (of the same group)
This means there are 54 death of 35-44 years old males per 100.000 population of 35-44 years old
males.
This is a specific causes, sexes, and age mortality rate.

Country A = (100/ 1.809.000) x 100.000 people = 5.53 per 100.000 population

Country B = (150/2.400.567) x 100.000 people = 6.23 per 100.000 population
Country C = (200/6.400.124) x 100.000 people = 3.12 per 100.000 population

Fovilia Dewi, FETP, 2016

Country D = (300/7.809.000) x 100.000 people = 3.84 per 100.000 population

2. determine which country had the highest death rate

The country that had the highestd eath rate is Country B with 6.23 death per 100.000 people.

ACTIVITY 4
Crude death rate (from all causes) in country X in 2003 is:
=

( )

= 1.176.453/ 198.812.000
= 0.00591 or 591 per 100.000 population

1. Calculate the crude HIV-related death rate in Country X in 2003 in the whole population
=

= 11.406/ 198.812.000
= 0.000057 or 5.7 per 100.000 population

2. Calculate the age-specific HIV-related death rate among 5-14 year-olds and among 35-44 yearolds
=

( )
( )

Among 5-14 years old:

= 30/ 28.146.000
= 0.000001 or 0.1 per 100.000 population of 5-14 years old

Among 35-44 years old:

= 4.096/ 29.305.000
= 0.000139 or 13.9 per 100.000 population of 35-44 years old

b. The HIV-specific death rate for country Y in 2003 was 4.5 per 100.000 population. Your calculation
for Question 2 should have given you the HIV specific death rate in Country X in 2002 as 5.5 per
100.000 populations
HIV specific death rate for Country Y (2003) = 4.5 per 100.000 population
HIV specific death rate for Country X (2002) = 5.5 per 100.000 population
HIV specific death rate for Country X (2003) = 5.7 per 100.000 population
Which means there is an increase number of HIV specific death rate in country X from 5.5 (per 100.000
population, 2002) to 5.7 (per 100.000 population, 2003).

c. Can you conclude that a person living in Country X has a high risk of dying from HIV that is 1.2
times (5.7/ 4.5 = 1.27) as high as a person living in Country Y?
No, we can not.

d. Discuss the limitations of the comparison in Question c above and outline two ways to overcome
them.
Maka
apabila kita melihat angka age specific HIV related death rate dari kedua negara tersebut, maka
angkanya adalah sama. Mari kita lihat tabel di bawah ini:

Maka dengan demikian, a person living in Country X has the same risk of dying from HIV-related as a
person living in Country Y.
