My name is Magnus Hemans and it is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I become a member of the Warren County Middle School community as a principal resident. I am truly honored to have the opportunity to serve as principal resident and look forward to working with the principal, assistant principal, teachers and the staff at Warren County Middle School to provide the best possible educational program for our students. I have had the wonderful opportunity to interact with students in the capacity of a teacher for over 15 years. The first seven years of my teaching career were spent teaching elementary and middle school students in my home country, Jamaica. The last 8 years, I have taught fourth and fifth grade Math to elementary students in Richmond City, Virginia and Vance and Warren County (North Carolina) Public Schools. Through collaboration with my colleagues, parents, other stakeholders and the deep passion that I have for teaching, I have watched my students, with much joy, have fun while learning Math and have seen them perform very well on their state exams over the years. This has motivated me to inspire teachers to go the extra mile to ensure that our students are given quality instruction on a daily basis and continue to be that voice and advocate for our students; especially in Northeast North Carolina. I am currently a proud member of North Carolina State Universitys Northeast Leadership Academy (NELA). This is the number one principal training program in the country. The goal of this program is to increase student achievement by preparing and retaining principals in highpoverty, hard to staff, and historically low-performing schools. Each component of the program is anchored in research based best practices in leadership preparation and is designed to meet the specific leadership needs of schools in rural northeast North Carolina. My desire is to help provide quality leadership that will motivate teachers to design quality lessons that cater to students individual learning needs. I wish to help teachers create an atmosphere where students are challenged daily and teaching is linked to students experiences so that learning can be more meaningful. Teachers, parents, support staff and the administrative team all have a role in preparing our students for the future. Therefore, it is important that we form a strong partnership so that Warren County Middle School will be a place where students look forward to coming daily. I am very excited and I look forward to working collaboratively with you this school year. Best Regards, Magnus Hemans, Principal Resident
