Gun Control
Have you ever wondered what the world would be like
without guns? Well, most people do not want to know. People have
all different kinds of thoughts on gun control. Some people support
the idea that guns should be banned in the United States and
others think that there is not a problem with guns being used in the
United States. Guns should never be banned from the United
States, even though various people think they should.
Crime is one of the biggest reasons that people feel like the
United States needs gun control. In 2008 alone about 16,272 lives
were lost due to murders that were committed in the United States
and 10,886 were committed with firearms (Just Facts). Data from
the United States Department of Justice stated that 5,340,000
violent crimes were committed in 2008. Crimes that include simple
aggravated a s s a u l t s , sexual assaults, and murders. From these
crimes almost 436,000 or eight percent were committed by people
with visible weapons (Just Facts). At the current rate, almost one
person out of 285 Americans will be murdered. Out of 18,000
prison inmates that are serving time, thirty percent of state
offenders and thirty five percent of federal offenders carried a
weapon while committing the crime (Just Facts).
People that are pro-gun control are trying to make real life
about the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution of the United States.
Those who are trying to limit guns say that the 2nd Amendment
only applies to militias or collective defense (Current Event). T he
s e co nd a me nd me nt s ta t e s " A well-regulated Militia being
necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to
keep and bear arms shall not be infringed . T h e s e people a r e
stating that there should not be guns other than those designed for
hunting or sport shooting available to the people. Many people
really would like that idea. (Overview).
People that think gun control is going to be beneficial for the
United States, are stating that the crime accounts would go down if
gun control was in place. They are saying that a gun is the number
one thing that is involved in crimes and murders. Thats why these
types of people would like to have gun control in the United
States.
way it will hurt the economy. Also all the money brought in from
hunting game will be lost. Just by there being gun control in
Colorado it is hurting many local business that have to do with
outdoor recreation activities and putting people out of business.
Towns in Colorado that revolve around hunting and fishing are
experiencing the effects on the economy from gun control. Many
businesses in these towns had to close their doors making 600
people jobless and losing over 85 million dollars in revenue
(Hopper).
Opponents against gun control know their rights and how the
Second Amendment works. People that do not want gun control are
not criminals they are just people that love their guns for reasons
like protecting themselves, hunting and shooting sports.
People that are for gun Control dont know everything they
need to know about the situation. They just think if we got rid of
guns the United States would be better place. At first glance that
honestly sounds safer but it is really not.
Gun control will probably be an ongoing debate for a while.
Both sides of gun control have very good reasons on why or why
not the United States should have guns, such as crimes rates and
money from guns. The United States should stick to the Second
Amendment Guns should never be banned from the United
States, even know people think they should!
