Midterm Reflection
SELF- assessment:
1.
Assess yourself as a Journaler and Writer by giving yourself a grade and
providing explanation/justification for that grade.
a.

Have you done all Journals and Writings so far?

-Yes I have, I tend to have problems with both Moodle and Canvas although as long
as my professor receives my work it is fine.
b.

Have you sufficiently followed the directions for each blog?

-Ive followed directions for the blogs yes, they emphasize the importance of the
journal.
c.
Have you gone back to edit your blogs once I mentioned or hinted that
something is missing?
-I feel pretty secure about the blogs I have written.
2.
Assess your Participation in class by giving yourself a grade and providing
explanation/justification for that grade. This includes: attendance, attitude and
engagement, preparation.
Since I am a senior graduating in May with 3000 and 4000 level classes, it is difficult
to participate with as much ambition as Id like. Though I try and make sure my
work is complete for class.
3.
STEP 1: Explain your involvement with this Brainstorm/Discovery. How did
you get to where you are now with it? How did you come up with your topic? What
issues did you run into that may have hindered your research? How did you solve
the issue? Did you make adjustments?
-One of my minors is psychology, therefore the study of the brain tends to interest
me. After watching Into the Wild, Im absolutely positive that there is some sort of
psychological explanation for his adventurous, yet taboo, actions. Thats what
helped me discover my topic.
4.

What about the 3 discussions so far?

a.

Discussion 1: Shitty First Drafts

-Interesting, I discovered some of the tactics I use without even consciously knowing
it. It was cool to discover that experienced writers also suffer with similar issues.
b.

Discussion 2: Understanding Types of writing

-There are many different types of writing with various genres. With this being the
3rd English class I have taken, I continue to broaden (or understand) different types
of writing throughout the duration of this class.
c.

Discussion 3: Into the Wild

-It was definitely intriguing to discover how my classmates felt about Into the
Wild. Everyone tended to have a personal opinion about the book and movie we
watched. Definitely a class choice by my professor.
Do you feel these discussions helped you understand the class? The material?
Writing in general?
-Yes, comparing my thoughts with other classmates also enlightened my view on our
discussions.

How do you feel about the assignments and how they reflect the SLOs?

5.
Grade Your Progress for above numbers 2 4. Choose one of the following as
guided by the Grading Expectations chart found in Moodle:

Above & beyond or extraordinary

Above average -3

Average

Below average

Overall Grade . . . so far. (Remember that this is merely an estimate based on the
first half of the semester. Nothing is final until the end of the semester, and the
final portfolio is a primary deciding factor.) Again, use the Grading Expectations
Chart as a model for what you think your grade should be.
*Above & Beyond or Extraordinary; *Above Average; *Average; *Below average

Explain your response by giving/citing the examples given in the Grading

Expectations Chart and how this coincides with the grade you hope to achieve at
the end of the semester. Also, cite what you could do better in order to achieve that
grade. Do you have any questions or concerns about your performance or your
expectations for the rest of the semester?
I need an A in this class without a doubt. Closing in on the end of my undergraduate
degree, my GPA needs as much help as I can get. Unlike most of the underclassmen
in the class, Im in a much different position.
