Introduction to Environmental Engineering

2nd Quarter 2016-2017

Using the Process Flow Diagram (PFD) of your manufacturing

process:
a. Draw the fate and transport of the contaminant from the
major industrial source going to the different matrices of
the environment (atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere
and biosphere (flora, fauna and human).
NOTE: You may use any of the natural biogeochemical
cycles (carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, etc.) as your pattern.
b. Consider the physical and chemical properties of the
contaminant in determining the nutrient pools it will go
to.
c. Determine
the
major
environmental
impact
the
contaminant will cause as it is deposited in its final
nutrient pool.
d. Show the chemical reactions involved to justify your
answers in numbers 1 to 3.

The difference between failure and success is doing a thing nearly right and doing it exactly
right. Edward C. Simmons
