Reason 1 : Allows the state to show that

criminals must face the consequence of their

own actions

ADDITIONAL FACTS
ON EXCECUTIONS

1. 34 states plus the US

government use lethal injection
as their primary method.
2. There were 56 women on death
row as of Dec. 31, 2014. This
constitutes less than 2% of the
total death row population.

Death
Penalty

Capital punishment or more widely known as the

Death Penalty. The death penalty has been
around since ancient times and is still being used
today to punish criminals who have committed a
variety of offenses. It gives a great example that no
crime must go unpunished, especially when
innocent lives have been taken.
EVIDENCE:

The execution of a murderer sends a

powerful moral message: that the innocent
life he took was so precious, and the crime
he committed so horrific, that he forfeits his
own right to remain alive, says Jeff Jacoby
from Boston news.
This quote is significant because it shows the
significance on how drastic it is to lose a life. It
shows that when doing so the perpetrator must pay
the price of this own actions. It concludes however,
that the loss of a life is not the only thing that sends
out a powerful message.
Jacoby continues by adding, the real threat
to innocent life is not the availability of the
death penalty, but the absence of one.
This quote is significant because it shows the
importance of the death penalty. Without it, the
crimes that were committed will not receive justice.
Instead, the guilty will keep on creating offenses
that will lead us all to misery.

ON FINANCE

1. Enforcing the death penalty

costs Florida $51 million a year
above what it would cost to
punish all first-degree
murderers with life in prison
without parole.

In addition, Jacoby continues by stating

But there is more to executions than
justice for the dead. There is also
protection for the living.
This quote concludes that the death penalty is
not just to punish criminals. It is a way for the
state to insure protection for their population.
Also, to give closure for the victims loved ones

REASON 2: GIVE VICTIMS A SENSEOF

JUSTICE

EVIDENCE:

"Revenge would be going out and killing one

of [the murderer's] family members," Vicki
Romano (wife of Fred Romano) said. "The
death penalty isn't revenge. It's the law."
Fred Romanos daughter had been tortured and
mutilated to death by Steven Howard Oken on
November 1, 1987. This is just an example of one of
many cases. As a victim in all this, Romano gives her
opinion on the death penalty calling it the law. This
goes on to prove that the death penalty gives victims
family justice for the life that they lost.
"It won't bring closure," Fred Romano said.
"Dawn will never be back. I am not looking
for closure. That is a bad misconception on
the part of some people. I want Oken to die
for the murder of Dawn, Patricia Hurt and
Lori Ward."
Closure might not always come with some victims
because of the death penalty. However, it does leave
them with a sense of justice when someone who did
them wrong pays for his actions. Just like Romano,
many victims just want the perpetrator to face the
consequences and never let them hurt others the way
they hurt them.
"My problem with it is that 10 years from
now some other idiot will come along and say
life without parole is too harsh," Fred
Romano said. "Then they'll pass a bill
granting them parole and then we'll have a
bunch of murderers walking the streets."
This quote proves that no matter if the death penalty
demolishes or not, the crime that happened will not be
undone. Even if we do replace it with alternatives
more people will think it is still inhuman and let more
criminals with vengeance on their mind wander free.
This will affect the victims even more because they
are doing it to other people. It is horrible but it is
necessary for the greater good.

Reason 3 : The death penalty decreases the rate

of possible murder victims
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
EVIDENCE:

1264

a 2003 study by Emory University researchers

of data from more than 3,000 counties from 1977
through 1996 found that each execution, on average,
resulted in 18 fewer murders per county. In another
examination, based on data from all 50 states from 1978
to 1997, said David B. Muhlhausen from US News.

The statistics in this quote convey the fact that murder

rates drop drastically because of the death penalty.
Meaning that for every country that enforces the death
penalty millions all together will not face a tragic death.
Each sacrifice that has occurred helps keep us safe over
all.
Muhlhausen continues on by adding, A more
Recent study by Kenneth Land of Duke University and
others concluded that, from 1994 through 2005, each
execution in Texas was associated with "modest, shortterm reductions" in homicides, a decrease of up to 2.5
murders.
This quote is significant because it gives truth from
reliable resources to prove the point hes making. It
shows that through recent years there has been shrinkage
in the rate of deaths. This proves the greater cause that
over time the rates will keep decreasing because of the
death penalty.
Finishing off my claim with his final statement
And in 2009, researchers found that adopting state laws
allowing defendants in child murder cases to be eligible
for the death penalty was associated with an almost 20
percent reduction in rates of these crimes.
This quote is significant because it clarifies children
more often than not fall victims to criminals. Not only
showing that the death penalty saves lives but let more
children have the chance to grow and experience life.
The death penalty ensures us that there are more chances
for people not go through the unjustified actions of
others.
