Lesson Topic/Title

Learning
Objective(s)

Common Core Standards

CCSS.Math.Content.7.G.B.5
Use facts about supplementary, complementary, vertical, and
adjacent angles in a multi-step problem to write and solve
simple equations for an unknown angle in a figure.
The student will be able to find the interior and exterior angle
measures of triangles with 100% accuracy.
STAGE 2: ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE

Formative Performance Tasks (what

the student does)
Answers the quick check questions
correctly
Correctly identifies triangles as
composite, adjacent,
supplementary, and vertical
Works with partner on activity and
solves corresponding problems
correctly
Asks questions to clarify
Analyzes the teachers examples of
the partner activity

Formative Observation (what the

teacher looks for, listens for, says or
does)
Looks for correct answers to
quick checks
Looks for student involvement
in the interior/exterior angles
worksheets
Observes students participating
in the partner activity and notetaking
Listens for questions
Helps students who need
assistance with the partner
activity

Formative Questions
1 What makes this picture (references Quick Check) either complementary,
supplementary, vertical, or adjacent?
2 Discuss your answer with your partner and listen to the steps that your
partner took to come to his/her solution.
3 Discuss with your shoulder partner one thing that you feel confident in
teaching someone else about what we did in class today?
4 Brainstorm one question that you still have about this and ask it to your
shoulder partner to get clarity.

Summative

This concept will be in the test at the end of the semester,

but this lesson will not address any direct summative
assessment. The teacher may use some of the direct
problems from the student partner activity to ask the
students on the unit test. The Quick Check will also be an
assessment for this class period.
STAGE 3: LEARNING PLAN

Time
5 minutes

Activity
Anticipatory set (required) Quick Check Geo vocab- This is
a graded mini-quiz that the students will complete at the
beginning of class. They will do their Quick Check individually,
and it will cover the following vocab words: supplementary,
complementary, adjacent, and vertical.

10 minutes

Homework Check- students will have time to review their

answers to homework on their online textbook/Edmodo. They
will review specific questions as a class in order to review
necessary information for class notes.

10 minutes

Test Review- Students will look over the recent test that they
just took. They will go over each question as a class, and the
teacher will go over the commonly missed questions. The
teacher will then take questions or concerns at the end and
quickly review or re-teach a concept that was confusing for
students.

15 minutes

Lesson- The teacher will ask the students to take their yellow
notes packet out. She will then have the students follow along
and participate with the term, definition, example note
format. Students will learn and practice with polygon interior
angles and polygon exterior angles. They will watch a
video about polygon exterior angles and the teacher will ask
them what they noticed. The teacher will ask them to watch it
again in order to solidify the knowledge. The students will
then practice with different triangles that the teacher writes
and projects with the document camera.
Independent Practice - For this part of the lesson, the teacher
will hand out the Triangle Sum & Exterior Angle practice
sheet. The students will be asked to pick a partner for this
activity. On the worksheet are two different columns of
corresponding problems. The corresponding problems are
different but they have the same answers. The students will
complete this activity individually but will then compare their
answers with their partners after they complete each
problem. This will help students check their work and focus
on specific problems that they are struggling with. The
teacher will also roam around the class to check student work

Closure (required) The teacher will ask the students to do a

think-pair-share with their partner and discuss one thing that
they learned and ask a question that they needed clarification
on. She will also assign the homework (page 58 of their
Record and Practice jornal).

Rationale

The SmartBoard and the document camera will be used so

that the teacher can use the exact worksheets that the
students will be using. This way, she will not have to re-draw
the triangles on the white board and can easily access the
same material that the students will be working on. She will
also be able to show the answers for the Quick Check
worksheets.
Accommodations
Please consult the accommodations handout on Moodle so that you suggest
acceptable and relevant accommodations. You must provide accommodations for
at least two students or groups of students. If you believe there are no students
who fit any of the categories you will need to pretend (as its likely they do exist
and you have not yet been able to identify them).
Gifted and
Provide the answer key of the worksheet on a back
Talented
table so that the students can check their answers
before they move on to the next problem
Provide a challenge problem if they finish early.
Learning
Allow extra time for the partner activity or assign less
Disabilities
of the problems on the partner activity
Pair a student that understands the concept well (that
would be able to teach it to another student) with a
student with a learning disability
Provide a copy of the notes
Emotional
Impairments
ELL

Other (ADHD)

Notes: (resources, things to remember, safety precautions)

Remember to bring an adequate number of worksheets for each student
Remember to bring an iPad charging cord in case students iPad is dead and
they cannot access the homework assignment at the end of class
