Raymond Loo
Head of Sixth Form Admissions
Sevenoaks School, High Street, Sevenoaks, Kent TN13 1HU, United Kingdom

Dear Mr. Loo,

I am writing to apply as a Sixth Form student at Sevenoaks School for the 2017-18 academic year. Tiffany Fung, an alumni of
the school and a current undergraduate student at the University of Cambridge, is a family friend of mine, who has said many great
things about the school and its rich and diverse co-curriculum. In fact, she was the one who opened my eyes to its magnificence,
as well as the possibility of applying to this rigorous, rewarding and supportive school.
As a student currently studying at the Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS), a co-educational International
Baccalaureate (IB) World School fully authorised to deliver the International Baccalaureate Programmes and the Ontario
Secondary School Diploma, I believe that the experiences that I have had will allow me to succeed at Sevenoaks School. Through
my experiences with IB programmes since Pre-Reception, I have gained a myriad of skills and knowledge within interdisciplinary
fields, ensuring my familiarity and adaptability with the IB curriculum, criteria and functionality. I strongly believe in the development
of a more balanced individual and the importance of co-curriculum, and hence participate in various activities that spark my interest,
such as mathematics, flute, piano and ballet. With my academic excellence and consistent IB grades of 6 and 7 at CDNIS, I believe
that I will be able to flourish in the fast-paced and strongly academic environment, along with other like-minded students.
Additionally, the Citizenship Award that I received in Grade 8 demonstrates my significant encouragement, assistance and support
to peers and characteristics of the IB Learner Profile, which will enhance the schools culture of mutual respect, admiration of
success, and its collaborative and supportive outlook within the student body.
Throughout my time at CDNIS, I have been able to pursue my passions and accomplish great achievements, whether it be
academic or co-curricular. At school, I maintain a high level of proficiency and academic excellence for all subjects, as evidenced
by the academic awards I have received - specifically Principals Award from Grade 7 to 9, which is awarded to those who receive
an IB MYP Grade of 6 or higher in all but one subject taken, and is typically only given to approximately 10% of the grade. Going
specifically into Mathematics, I have an immense passion for it, and I have represented the school and participate in various
competitions, including the South East Asian Mathematics Competition in Kuala Lumpur. This passion will allow me to
enthusiastically take part in the Maths Society at Sevenoaks. Last summer, I studied Mathematics and Human Geography at a
University of Oxford summer school for two weeks, where I won multiple awards and prizes for Mathematics, and developed a good
understanding of what it would be like to study abroad in the UK. Furthermore, moving on to extracurricular activities, the one that I
am most passionate about is ballet. I started ballet at a young age of 5, and have been continuously working hard to improve my
skills and techniques. I regularly attend classes, with at most four classes a week, and have also taken part in school
performances, as well as intensive summer dance schools. Ballet is a physical activity that has pushed my limits and forced me to
persist, persevere and try my best at all times. My dedication and motivation over the past 10 years have allowed me to complete
all Royal Academy of Dance Graded Examinations for Classical Ballet and two Vocational Graded Examinations. Likewise, I started
learning the piano at the age of 6, and have been constantly honing my skills to achieve the highest graded examination for the
Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. I am currently working on the Associate Diploma Examination.
Thank you for your kind attention. I will be getting in touch and following up with you in a week with regards to the application
progress. I look forward to hearing back from you, and am ready for an interview at your earliest convenience. I can be reached via
