Our library is struggling to meet with the challenges of a digital media culture. We want to give
our patrons better quality and more access to online information sources. Currently, our library is
networked with other libraries in the region and we want to stay up to date with the latest
technology advances. We plan on purchasing three desktop computers, a faster internet
connection, and WiFi to help improve the library for our patrons.
With funds given, we plan on using them to purchase three desktop computers from Best Buy.
Amount Requested:

$ 678.28

Dale Fox, owner of the local business, Strawberry Computing, has chosen to be a donor for this
project. His company will be donating $658.99 for the cost of a Wireless Access Point and $500
of this cost will go towards the desktop computer prices. He will also be donating his time and
the cost of labor for installing all of the devices for the library and will make sure the connection
is maintained.

The Carver Iowa Public Library Grant Award Program works well with our goal of increasing
knowledge about the new technology age for our patrons. The grant is awarded to those for
construction, renovation, and equipment needs, including technology-based initiatives that link
libraries across multiple sites. Our project focuses on acquiring new technology for the library
patrons from our community. This grant will help increase our already made connection with
other libraries in the region. A minimum of 50% of the total project cost must be secured before
application can be made and we currently have 52.8% of the funds secured through donations.
Volunteer involvement are major factors in project evaluation, and the donation of funds and
labor from Strawberry Computing show the communitys investment in this project. Roy J.
Carver Charitable Trust focuses on programs for education and the youth. This project is seeking
to help the youth and other community members to become more educated on the digital media
culture. 23.9% of the current population of Strawberry Point is 19 years of age or younger. We
plan to get the community involved to teach the younger generations about the technology age.
Evaluation of the project will be completed through the increase in presence at the library and
use of the new technology. This project will be sustained once support is completed through use
of volunteers and updates. To maintain technology condition, updates will be made and/or
advancements will be purchased to ensure the connection runs smoothly. Strawberry Computing
has agreed to complete monthly checkups to guarantee the computers are working correctly and
the WiFi connection is strong.
The Strawberry Point Public Library was established in 1934. The Fortnightly Club and other
members of the community were essential in the development of the library. The Friends of the
Library committee is a committee of local supporters for the Strawberry Point Public Library.
Our mission is to create programs to improve the library for the better of the community.
Thank you again for your consideration and support for helping libraries become more involved
in the digital media culture. We look forward to your response.
