Strategies for working on project #5:

Your goal is to transform your selected artists piece altering, in
some fashion: subject, context and color, to make it your own.
(Context refers to how your subject(s) and environment interact)
This project will be made 50% in Photoshop and 50% in Illustrator.
How (the methodology) and what techniques/tools are used, is up to you.
In class we will discuss how to integrate both programs into your workflow.
This process will likely consist of working on or editing different assets
(subject, foreground, background etc.) and visual attributes in one
program then adding details or certain effects in another.
Based on the artwork you have seen over the duration of the semester,
choose a visual
artist and one piece by that artist that you will work from (take
inspiration from).
YOU ARE NOT JUST COPYING A PIECE. YOU ARE CREATING YOUR
OWN CONTENT.

You are to select one and only one piece to work from. You
MUST stick
with your selection.
Artist Name: Di e go R i v e ra
Title of Piece: Man, Controller of the universe
Media (Digital illustration, oil painting, pen and ink, etc.):
Consider how this artist approaches their subject matter. Do they create
pieces that
tell stories or do they focus more on simply evoking a mood? You should be
able to
find discussions or interviews with this artist when doing your research that
help
you determine how this artist works/creates their art.
DO NOT simply choose a piece that you think will be easiest. You have from
now until the
final exam date to complete this project. Your project must reflect a large
investment of
time and effort. This project will likely take upwards of 1214 hours.

After you have selected your piece to work from, determine how you
relate to your selected piece. What is it about the content that
speaks to you? Does your selected work tell a story? Does it elicit a
specific emotional response? (Does it make you happy, sad, feel calm,
etc.)
How do you relate to your piece? (Consider why you chose it)
(EXPLAIN):
The image was chosen for me, and it suits on what my idea was for making this
project.
The kind of piece I seek was a character in the center, acting as if a leader to the
people at the left
and right of the stage.

From your selected piece, list three visual elements that represent
your artists style. Explain each element in detail. (If you need more
space use the lines on the back page). Consider how you answered this
question for your surrealistic piece.
1) Color Most of my creations dont appear right without the use of color,
it helps add a feeling into a drawing and make them appear flashy rather
than plain black and white.
2) Shape I prefer to create figures in shape form rather than in more
details, Im not a big fan on overly detailed creations.
3) Tone After doing Intro to Engineer Design, applying shading became
one skill of mine. Applying tone also can show the kind of atmosphere that
is presented in my works.
Next, find out how this specific piece is able to relate that
feeling or story to you. Is it through the subject, the environment,
color choice, proximity of subjects to each other and their
environment (context), etc.?
Explain how you think your piece conveys its story or emotion
to you: Consider artistic style (how images are represented).

In your opinion, what is the story of your selected piece?

All the characters that Ive controlled as (with their respective customization
outfits) gathered together and meeting each other in person.

Similar to project #3, you will take your selected piece and plug
in your own content. You will substitute your own subject, your own
environment and so on.
YOUR SELECTED WORK SERVES AS ONLY AS A VISUAL GUIDE.
Before you begin gathering your imagery/sketching/etc., decide what the
intent of your piece is. What is it you hope to communicate in your
own piece? (This is the same as question #1 on your project critique
form).
Showing leadership to all the other characters as a detective.
To myself it shows variations of myself in different forms.

Co

What elements from your source piece will you keep?

Co

Color is a common element and very important to me to apply in my artworks to

create a kind of atmosphere. A sunrise can say a cheerful mood, as a sunset can
apply seriousness or a finish.
What elements from your source piece will you Change?
Shape I may wish to change as deciding on whether to make the artwork with a
hard or a soft brush to create a form of blend, creating it to be somewhat 3D
like.
How do you intend to integrate Illustrator into your workflow?
(Be Specific. List the tools you will use and how you plan to use them)
Not much thought is put in using illustrator, the primary tool I may use is image
tracing and turning it into more of a shape like painting form.
How do you intend to integrate Photoshop into your work flow?
(Be Specific. List the tools you will use and how you plan to use them)
B

Photoshop I wish to focus primarily on using the brush tool and masking. The
burn tool can also help in creating shadows, while the different types of brush
presets to help create the sky and making clothes to appear ore leather or silk
like.
